Os Paulistas Blanco Chao dos Eremitas
They also produced this wine in 2021 and 2022, but the first we tasted is the 2023 Os Paulistas Chão dos Eremitas Branco, which also mentions Vinhas de Mistura (mixed vines) on the label, as the vineyard was planted with a field blend of Alicante Branco, Roupeiro, Tamarez (Trincadeira-das-Pratas) and Rabo de Ovelha. It has a super expressive nose. They bought 20 hectares in 2018, and in 2020, they bought the field blend that was planted in 1969 that makes this wine; for them, the blend is better than the separate varieties fermented separately. They are at the bottom of a Monastery that had belonged to them in the past. It has a phenomenal nose, with complexity, nuance, elegance and depth. It has precision, like laser cut, sharp and focused, vibrant and long, with a dry, serious and chalky finish. It should develop nicely in bottle. Only 828 bottles were filled in February 2025. I tasted a very young 2024 that will be sold next year; it was still a baby and was austere and closed, even though it had already been in bottle for a while, since August 2025.
