Climens steht auf reinem Kalksteinfels und die uralten Reben sind ausschließlich Semillon. Das würde man nicht ahnen, üblich ist ja auch der Mischsatz mit Sauvignon Blanc und auch Sauvignon Gris. Aber wegen des reinen Kalksteins passt reine Semillon besser. Und doch ist Climens wohl der eleganteste Wein aus Sauternes und Barsac. Blumig, unterlegt mit Grapefruit und Limette, dazu tropische Früchte und Geißblatt. Extrem präzise und trotz seiner phänomenalen Reichhaltigkeit eine elegante, tänzerische Primaballerina. Einer der größten und feinsten je erzeugten Süßweine in Bordeaux. Nach 50 Jahren im Keller wird Perfektion zur Extase. Yquem und Climens sind 2001 Monumente der Zeitgeschichte. 100/100

A prodigious offering, the 2001 Climens’ light medium bold color with a greenish hue is followed by ethereal aromas of tropical fruits (primarily pineapple), honeysuckle, and flowers. It is a medium-bodied wine of monumental richness, extraordinary precision/delineation, great purity, and moderate sweetness. The finish seemingly lasts forever. Full-bodied on the palate, it has perfect balance, integrated acidity, and a gorgeous finish. This knockout, sensationally complex, richly textured, yet also pure and precise Barsac is a thrill to drink today, yet it’s going to evolve for 40-50 years on its concentration and balance.
