Der Wein lagerte bis zu unserem Kauf im Winter 2025/26 in den Kellern der Domaine Bouchard. Der Chevalier-Montrachet stammt von eigenen Rebflächen oberhalb von La Cabotte, der direkt an den Montrachet Grand Cru angrenzt. Diese Abfüllung stammt nicht aus La Cabotte, sondern den Terrassen darüber, es ist der kargere und feinere, mineralischere Wein. Eine Nase, die nicht mit ihren Reizen geizt und auch im Jungstadium schon sehr ansprechend ist. Gelbe und grüne Birne, Melone und provencalischer Nougat, Zitronentarte mit Meringue. Die schöne Extraktsüße diese warmen Terroirs kommt durch, aber eben auch diese immense, sehr stringente, fast dramatische Spannung aus den kargen Kalksteinterrassen oben am Hang. Kraft und Eleganz. Der Wein zeigt, warum Chevalier heute von vielen Insidern sogar mehr als der Montrachet geschätzt wird, weil er oft mehr Spannung und Rasse hat. Aus den größten Gläsern, die Sie finden können, ist das auch in jüngeren Jahren schon ein toller Genuss.

Der Ausnahme-Jahrgang 2022 gilt im Burgund als Forecast gen Perfektion. Trotz Rekordhitze bestechen die Weine mit einer überraschend feingliedrigen Klassik, klarer Terroir-Definition und wunderbarem Trinkfluss – eine spektakuläre Rezeptur aus reicher Fruchtdichte und vibrierend heller Frische.

They say that first impressions are the most important, and my first impression of this is that it's the white burgundy of my dreams. Astonishing Amalfi-lemon, pineapple and wildflower aromas with touches of flint and wet stones on the nose. Then comes the overwhelming minerality on the extremely concentrated, medium- to full-bodied palate. It is not only of mind-blowing intensity, but it just does not want to stop. The fruit is all there, but is right to the back of the stage upon which the stone figure of the heroine stands. And yet all of this is is so precise and finely nuanced. From a 2.33 hectare parcel in this legendary site. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru is often one of Bouchard Père's strongest cards. It delivers a beautifully defined bouquet with crushed limestone and yellow fruit shimmering with tension. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh with a linear, sapid finish. Sophisticated and long-term.

Frédéric Weber explained his parcellaire approach to Chevalier, where the house has an enormous 2.33 hectares (in addition to their La Cabotte holding): the upper terrace has a tight energy and lighter body, with a suggestion of citrus fruit 'beaux amers'. The next terrace down delivers wine with a hint of mandarin orange. The penultimate terrace gives a richer, more substantial wine with ripe apple aromas, while the lowest terrace gives the most powerful wine that almost resembles the honeyed density of Bâtard-Montrachet. The blend of them all is superb and will age for decades.

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, which I preferred to the La Cabotte cuvée from barrel, is clean and precise on the nose: white fruit, sea cave, mirin and orange blossom gracefully unfurl in the glass. Superb delineation and focus, the oak extremely well integrated. The palate is very well balanced with a killer line of acidity. Impressive tension, built towards the slightly honeyed finish—maybe slightly later picked compared to its peers, yet that has not deprived it of any of its tension or minéralité. Magnificent. Bottled under Diam 10. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
