Riesling Erbach Marcobrunn Großes Gewächs
Like the Pfaffenberg GG, Künstler's Erbach Riesling trocken 2022 Marcobrunn GG VDP.Grosse Lage is only the second edition since Gunter leased his MB plot from Paul Graf von Schönborn who is, unfortunately, responsible for the decline of one of the Rheingau's outstanding domaines in terms of its vineyard portfolio alone, of which producers such as Allendorf or Ress should now benefit as much as Gunter Künstler does. The latter's 2022 Marcobrunn opens with a deep, refined and coolish, slightly mineral nose with elegant and bright rather than dark fruit aromas and iodine nuances. The wine is rich yet elegant and sustainably fresh, provided with finely grained acidity and a salivating, very intense and complex yet not alcoholic finish. The wine mirrors the fame of the Marcobrunn even in modern times, which has given birth to many clumsy and alcoholic Rieslings in recent years and decades. Künstler's 2022 brings the Marcobrunn back on track, and its power is structured by fine tannins and substantial minerals. A dry and sunny vintage such as 2022 is certainly a big advantage to deliver. 13% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted in September 2024.
