Etna Rosato
2014 is considered to be one of the big vintages on Etna. Late summer and autumn were dry, and the sugar levels at the end of September were very high – but in some cases without the balance of acidity and phenolic ripeness. De Grazia says, ‘it is a powerful vintage, and many producers mistook power for greatness; to me, it is a bit over the top.’ This rosato has a less expressive nose, with crushed apricots, hints of honey, toasted almonds, and orange peel. The texture is round and rich, with a wide mouthfeel, sun-warmed yellow fruit and nutty tones balanced by a tingling acidity. It is a serious wine with a medium finish.
