Lobenberg: Das Bouquet ist extrem animierend. Eingelegte Paprika, dann getrockneter Thymian, Olive und Brombeere. Fast an Cornas erinnernd in seiner Wucht und Tiefe. Am Gaumen tiefschwarze Frucht, feines, ja, sandiges Tannin. Eine mittlere Säurestruktur. Das ist alles sehr zupackend und dunkel in der Aromatik aber eben ohne Holzeinfluss. Würzig, tief, ohne animalische Töne. Ein Steak-Wein par excellence. Die Qualität zu dem Preis ist überragend, da haben es ehrlicherweise manche Franzosen schwer.

-- Tim Atkin: Cornerstone is the odd one out at Reyneke in a sense, as it’s made from Cabernet Francand 42% Cabernet Sauvignon rather than Syrah, but it's no longer the poor relation of the winery's other two reds. Showing impressive freshness and minerality, it's less firm wooded than it has been, with graphite and green salad aromas, lots of youthful energy and layers of cassis, incense and black cherry. 2025-35

Galloni über: Cornerstone

-- Galloni: The 2021 Cornerstone includes less Cabernet Franc and more Cabernet Sauvignon than previous vintages because the milder 2021 vintage favored the latter. Very perfumed again on the nose, this is beautifully defined. The new oak (only applied to the Cabernet Sauvignon) is neatly integrated, with touches of blue fruit and black pepper emerging with time. There’s a sense of symmetry and focus here, culminating in a Pomerol-inspired, graphite-tinged finish that boasts just the right amount of austerity.

-- Suckling: Aromatic, showing wild blueberries, nutmeg, sandalwood and sweet paprika on the nose. It’s full-bodied and fleshy with delicious sweet-spice character to the ripe fruit. Chewy finish. A blend of 58% cabernet franc and 42% cabernet sauvignon. From biodynamically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold.
