Reserve des Celestins
The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Réserve Des Célestins is ripe, powerful, yet also incredibly sexy. Deep ruby/plum to the rim, it has a stunning nose of ripe black currants, meaty black olive, roasted meat, chocolate, and Provençal garrigue. It's full-bodied and dense on the palate, with gorgeous richness and depth, high glycerin, ripe, velvety tannins, and a thick, powerful yet balanced and juicy style that belies its overall size. It reminds me slightly of a more polished 1998 and is a singular, unctuous Célestins that's surprisingly accessible. There's absolutely no harm in opening this gem today, yet given its depth, richness, and structure, as well as its overall balance, it should have 20-30 years of longevity. Drink 2026-2056.
