Cote Rotie La Reynarde 2022

A new wine from 1.5 hectares in the Cote Brun. It's wonderfully perfumed from the 100% whole-bunch fermentations. It's very aromatic with dried flowers, stems and graphite, along with blackberry and blueberry. It's full-bodied but not heavy and has a long finish. This needs three or four years to open. Try after 2029.

Jeb Dunnuck über: Cote Rotie La Reynarde

The first vintage for this cuvée, the 2022 Côte Rôtie La Reynarde comes from the Fongeant lieu-dit, which sits just above the Côte Brune. It's not destemmed and was vinified using only punch downs (similar to La Turque) and sees the same 4 years in new barrels as the other single-vintage releases. Loads of blackberries, currants, smoked meats, crushed stone, and graphite characterize the aromatics, with black olive and iron notes emerging with air. It has a rich, full-bodied profile on the palate with a beautiful texture and ripe, polished tannins. It clearly earns its spot in the lineup and is a brilliant, structured, age-worthy Côte Rôtie in the making. 96-98/100

Galloni über: Cote Rotie La Reynarde

The inaugural 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Reynarde unfurls with intense espresso, blackberry, blackcurrant, black cherry, crushed violets, graphite and cedar. Medium-bodied and concentrated, it strikes a perfect balance between elevated flavor concentration and matching freshness. Structured and round, the La Reynarde is a terrific addition to what is now called the “La-La-La-La: family. Speaking of family, this new wine is a tribute to Philippe Guigal’s two sons–Etienne and Charles were both born in 2010, the same year when the clearance for planting and construction in the new vineyard began.

Decanter über: Cote Rotie La Reynarde

A very floral expression, rose and potpourri. Soft and juicy, easy to enjoy, quite searching tannins, but not overly powerful or robust. A little more fluid than Guigal's other Côte-Rôties, it's not as concentrated as La Turque but more so than La Mouline. A fresh and quite natural expression, which is low in acidity but still very good. Has taken the élevage well to date, which will be 40 months in new oak barriques like the other La Las. The 1.5ha site in lieu-dit Fongeant was planted over the course of four years, the first plantation in 2019. All whole bunch like La Landonne, but sees a more classic extraction using hand pigeage. A promising first vintage.

Weingut über: Cote Rotie La Reynarde

To be released on 2 February 2026 with the launch of the 2022 vintage, La Reynarde completes the range of Côte-Rôtie crus previously made up of La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne. Its name refers to the Reynard stream, a key geographical feature of the appellation that marks the natural boundary between Côte-Rôtie’s two iconic plots : the Côte Brune and the Côte Blonde. The creation of La Reynarde began in 2010 to celebrate the arrival of the fourth generation of the Guigal family, represented by Philippe and Eve’s twin sons, Charles and Étienne. This milestone roots the domain in its transgenerational heritage whilst affirming its ongoing continuity. A viticultural endeavour founded on rigour, a long-term vision and an intimate knowledge of the slopes of Côte-Rôtie. - Planted on the steepest slopes of the Fongeant hillside, La Reynarde stands out for its complex geology, composed of mica-schist and gneiss with the presence of migmatites. This plot is an ode to Syrah, which is planted exclusively here. Vinification is carried out using whole bunches and adheres to the family’s exacting standards: to reveal the identity of the terroir with precision and consistency, without artifice. Like the other LALA’S®, La Reynarde benefits from prolonged ageing in new oak barrels crafted at the artisanal cooperage of Château d’Ampuis. This particularity of Domaine Guigal enhances its overall mastery of the production of its exceptional wines.
