Crazy Fang
-- Parker: Crazy Fang takes it names from Kanaan Winery’s inimitable owner. This is her top blend, and it is composed solely of Cabernet Sauvignon and retails for around 1,500RMB (which is by no means the most expensive domestic wine offered in the Chinese mainland). Kanaan’s 2019 Crazy Fang has a very deep ruby appearance. On the nose, this wine is exceptionally young, showing some ripe but brooding dark black fruit—intense cassis, mulberry, black cherry and bramble fruit—with only a little herbaceous character (sage) and some toasted savory new oak notes (the 2019 saw 100% new oak hogsheads for 15 months). The 2019 is super full-bodied with a huge coating tannic structure, some lively acidity and well-integrated high alcohol. This is fleshed out with a vibrant core of still very young fruit flanked by savory oak (the primary and secondary being well-knitted together). With its markedly long length, the 2019 Crazy Fang is a wonderful vintage in the making for this label. Very much on the young side, this is better approached from 2023 and will easily age to 2029 and beyond. 94/100
