Die warmen, mineralischen Böden und die exponierte Lage schenken diesem Wein seine unvergleichliche Finesse. 2005 zeigt sich nach zwei Jahrzehnten Reife in geradezu betörender Schönheit. Himbeere, reife Erdbeere, Veilchen, Rosenblätter, orientalische Gewürze und ein Hauch edles Sandelholz. Am Gaumen unglaublich seidig, schwebend und dennoch von enormer Konzentration. Feinste Tannine, berauschende Fruchttiefe und ein endloser, floraler Nachhall. Jetzt nach 20 Jahren auf seinem ersten großen Höhepunkt, dabei noch für viele weitere Jahre gemacht. Einer der sinnlichsten und elegantesten Syrah-Weine der Welt!

Another ridiculous effort, the 2005 Cote Rotie la Mouline doesn’t pull any punches and is perfectly balanced, deeply concentrated and shockingly rich, with a seamless, elegant and silky character that’s to die for. Giving up notions of smoked beef, iron, spring flowers and thrilling black raspberry and blackberry fruit, this classic La Mouline has nothing out of place, beautiful purity and precision, and incredible length. More in the style of the 2010, it can be consumed anytime over the coming 2-3 decades. 100/100

Doing everything right and one of the best young wines I’ve ever tasted, the 2005 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline offers extraordinarily complex and nuanced aromatics of smoked bacon, chocolate, toast, and hints of flowers that are integrated perfectly with the deep raspberry and blackberry fruit profile that only Côte-Rôtie can deliver. Full bodied, dense, concentrated, and seamless on the palate, with a gorgeously suave and silky texture, perfect balance, and ultra fine tannin structure. Despite the structure here, this maintains a subtle elegance and weightlessness that is nothing short of captivating. An awesome wine, I would cellar bottles for a decade, and then drink over the following 20 or so years. 100/100
