A perfectly ripe strawberry is all I can say about the nose, with just a hint of orange peel and perfumes like lavender and violets. Medium-bodied and dense, with ultra-fine, silky tannins. The purity is like waking up on a perfect morning with dew, damp earth and vines. It's so long, reserved and precise. Just a hint of flint at the end. Best after 2029.

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy über: Clos de Tart Grand Cru

A richer deeper crimson. Very much in a sort of royal strawberry mode, supported by the higher percentage of new wood. Interesting, nuanced, waves of generous flavour on the palate, fresher at the finish, the wave breaking on the tannic shore, but leaving a clean fresh red fruit behind that is extremely persistent. I tasted this from a different shape of glass which made quite a change to the tasting note, especially in terms of the youth of the 2023 Clos de Tart. It became denser and more backward, with darker fruit on the nose. Significantly more energy of fruit across the palate, and definitely more of a raft of tannins at the back, currently a touch too aggressive, you would certainly push back the drinking window by five years. Ratings and the drinking window are a compromise between the two glasses.

Decanter über: Clos de Tart Grand Cru

Although it is still maturing, the 2023 blend for the Clos de Tart is the very image of a grand vin, with pronounced fruit aromas of mulberry and black cherry fruit touched with pepper, ginger and mint. The texture is silky and approachable, yet there is no lack of underlying tannins. Each parcel within the Clos is fermented separately, some as whole clusters and some destemmed; the extraction is managed to avoid astringency. The wine is ageing in cask, half new. The finished wines should be approachable reasonably young, but will undoubtedly age for decades.

Galloni über: Clos de Tart Grand Cru

The 2023 Clos de Tart Grand Cru, which contains 50% whole bunch, has an exquisite bouquet that is understated at first, opening with Dorset plum, raspberry, graphite and violets, the latter becoming more prominent with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with finely sculpted tannins. There is pleasing fluidity to this Clos de Tart with a very harmonious satin-textured finish lent edge by assiduous whole bunch addition. What a lovely Grand Cru, one that just needs two or three years in bottle.

Tim Atkin über: Clos de Tart Grand Cru

Echoing my notes last year, this is a dynamo of a wine between its focused energy, molded tannins and long, savory finish. Relatively refined and yet still working itself into place a bit, this showcases a gorgeous array of the dense, savory flavors that are very characteristic of this unique, historic clos.
