Die Assemblage von Pichon Comtesse in 2022: 78 Prozent Cabernet Sauvignon, fünf Prozent Cabernet Franc und 17 Prozent Merlot. Die Nase ist hocharomatisch, dicht und reich, aber unendlich fein. Eigentlich irgendwo zwischen Pomerol und Saint-Émilion schwebend. Feinster Blütenstaub mit Lavendel und Veilchen. Dahinter schwarze Kirsche, etwas Cassis und Holunder, aber superfein poliert und trotzdem aromatisch. Extrem schick! Schon in der Nase wird klar, dass der reichliche Gerbstoff seidigst, feinkörnigst poliert ist. Der Mund ist nochmal deutlich feiner als des zuvor probierten Pichon Baron. Lakritze, dunkel Schokolade, Nougat und Holunder, dazu zerstoßene Blaubeerschalen und schwarze Kirsche. Viel Salz, viel Gesteinsmehl. Schöne Länge, grandiose Balance! Die beiden Pichons haben ein herausragendes Jahr erwischt. Zusammen mit Lynch Bages sind sie sicherlich die ersten Verfolger der Premier Crus – wenn sie nicht gar auf gleichem Level sind. 100+/100 *** Aktueller Besitzer von Pichon Comtesse ist die Familie Rouzaud, ebenfalls Besitzer des Champagnerhauses Roederer. Die Familie erwarb das Weingut 2007, seit 2010 ist Sylvie Cazes Verwalterin von Pichon Comtesse. Pichon Lalande liegt auf einer zwei bis fünf Meter dicken Schicht aus Kies, teils mit Sand durchmischt. Darunter befindet sich komplett Lehm. Die Böden sind also ideal geeignet für die mediterranen Jahre ab 2015, weil es immer ausreichend Wasserversorgung gibt.

Der Ausnahme-Jahrgang 2022 gilt als eine der konzentriertesten und reichsten Saisons aller Zeiten – trotz extremer Sommerhitze bestechen die Top-Weine mit monumentaler Dichte, einer überraschend tiefen Säurestruktur und beispiellosem Lagerpotenzial.

The 2022 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has turned out even better in bottle than I anticipated, bursting from the glass with aromas of cassis and blackberries mingled with scents of licorice, violets and pencil shavings. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's suave, seamless and complete, with faultless precision, pristine integration of tannin, controlled sweetness and a long, expansive finish. The 2022 manages to unite the sensuality that's the estate's calling card and the ripeness of the vintage on the one hand, with a sense of Pauillac classicism on the other, threading the needle to deliver one of the finest wines of the vintage and a benchmark Pichon Comtesse. It's a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in barriques (three months more than was formerly the case), two-thirds of which were new. As I wrote en primeur, there's more than a hint of the 1982 about this wine, and like the 1982, the 2022 will offer an exceptionally wide drinking window.

What perfect aromas of blackcurrants, lead pencil, violets, blood oranges and blood. Some iron. Medium- to full-bodied, this has incredible tannins that are completely loaded and integrated, melting into the wine with such a glorious mouthfeel. The finish goes on and on, lightly austere in the most sophisticated way. Racy and rigorously focused. 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and 5% cabernet franc. Try after 2030, but already a new benchmark for this estate.

Stoffig, süß und elegant, schokoladige Textur, frisch und komplex, süßer Nachhall, enormer Druck, tolle Länge, Harmonie, salziges Finale, nicht enden wollend, der Nachfolger für den legendären 1982er ist geboren, der delikateste Pauillac seit Langem. 100/100

Shiny and striking, this delights from the first sip giving a burst of strawberry and citrus acidity before salty minerality comes in the form of chalky tannins, graphite, pencil lead and slate. Really quite mineral. It's sleek and classically styled, no overt ripeness of fruit although there's concentration in the frame and power that thrusts the flavours forward. Detailed and joyous, it's pent up with muscles and tension but where other wines are showcasing that brawn now, this also delivers a ton of juicy acidity and lift which makes this so joyful. Expressive, Fragrant, Blue Fruit, Red Berries, Violets, Earthy, Medium bodied, Refreshing Acidity, Subtle Oak, Silky Texture, High Tannin, Needs Time. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is deep garnet-purple in color. After a swirl or two, notes of wild blueberries, red currants, and cassis spring from the glass, opening out to hints of violets, graphite, and fragrant soil. The elegantly played, medium-bodied palate is very finely-knit with silky tannins and a lively line defining the electric floral and black fruit flavors, finishing with epic length and lots of intriguing whispers. A triumph. 'It took a while for my team and me to admit that this is the best we've done so far,' said winemaker Nicolas Glumineau.

The 2020 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has one of the more opulent aromatic profiles amongst the flight of Pauillac wines, displaying black cherries, cassis, graphite and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with svelte tannins and a silver bead of acidity. Silky smooth in texture, this retains impressive composure toward the finish, handling the weight of fruit with class. It improves with each swirl, though the bottle I tasted just after bottling had a touch more precision. Nevertheless, this a fabulous Pauillac that flirts with perfection. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Am kaskadenartigen Gaumen mit seidiger Textur, reifer Extraktfülle und tänzerischer Rasse – alles in Balance, ein wahrer Modellathlet mit präzisen und eleganten Definitionen. Im konzentrierten Finale blaubeerige Konturen, tiefschürfende Terroirwürze und erhabene Adstringenz – ganz nah an der Perfektion und hinter Mouton Rothschild dieses Jahr der zweitbeste Pauillac. 98-99/100

One of the gems from Pauillac is unquestionably the 2022 Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse De Lalande, which is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. A hypothetical blend of the 2019 and 2020, it's a full-bodied, concentrated, opulent Comtesse offering beautiful blue fruits, some chocolate, leafy herbs, and undeniable minerality, ripe, velvety tannins, and a great finish. Despite the higher Cabernet Sauvignon component, this stays silky, expansive, and incredibly sexy. It's going to be drinkable with just 4-5 years of bottle age but should have a lengthy drink window. Hats off to director Nicolas Glumineau for another legendary wine from this château. 97-100/100

Mir fehlen die Worte, ich muss dieses Dufterlebnis zuerst einmal verdauen, einfach mal eine Weile nur geniessen, bestaunen, sich betören lassen. Das ist burgundische Feinheit, der Duft berührt die Nase nur ganz zart, aber die aromatische Fülle ist unbeschreiblich. Klar, es ist Pichon, mit dieser verschwenderischen Vielfalt kann nur ein ganz grosser Pichon duften. Rabenschwarze Frucht, Terroirdüfte ohne Ende, das ist eine die Sinne berauschende Duftorgie. Am Gaumen geht das grosse Staunen weiter, das ist ein Superleichtgewicht, der Wein streichelt den Gaumen nur ganz zart, zeigt aber eine bombastische Fülle von Aromen, eine immense Vielfalt, enorm konzentriert und gleichzeitig so sagenhaft leicht. Das ist ein mit Worten kaum zu beschreibendes Naturwunder: 20+/20! Dazu wird er – wie der 1982er – zweifellos ganz jung schon allerhöchstes Trinkvergnügen bieten. 20+/20

1850 wurden das Weingut Pichon Longeville wegen eines Erbschaftsfalls geteilt. Eine Hälfte erbte Virginie de Lalande, die noch vor Antritt ihres Erbes den Grafen Henri de Lalande geheiratet hatte. So kam der etwas umständlich lange Name Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande zustande.
