Reife, schwarzfruchtige Cabernet-Nase. Viel Cassis, Mineralität, Salz schon in der Nase. Sehr rassig. Geniale Frische in 2019, das hält die üppg schwarze, süße Frucht in Balance. Auch im Mund schöne Spannung zeigend und eine hohe Mineralität. Lakritze, Veilchen. Nicht zu süß, aber schon ziemlich üppig. Pauillac hat ab seit dem ersten mediterranen Jahr 2015 die maskuline Strenge abgelegt, die Appellation ist jetzt durchaus sexy, Höhepunkte gab es in 2016, 18 und 19 schon reichlich und das 2018 von Monsieur Borie (Grand Puy Lacoste) an Lynch Bages verkaufte Chateau profitiert in bisher nicht vorstellbarem Ausmaß vom Klimawandel und Eigentümerwechsel. Sehr gelungener Wein.

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarter Ockerrand. Zarte Kräuterwürze, dunkles Beerenkonfit, ein Hauch von Lakritze und Cassis, mineralischer Touch. Saftig, engmaschig, feine Extraktsüße, tragende, reife Tannine, Herzkirschen im Abgang, sehr gute Länge, sicheres Entwicklungspotenzial. 95/100

Slightly darker fruited and denser than the more ethereally styled 2018, the 2019 Château Haut-Batailley offers up a gorgeous array of red and black currants, black raspberries, tobacco, and flowers, with more classic lead pencil and tobacco notes emerging with time in the glass. Balanced, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated, it has ripe, supple tannins, terrific mid-palate density, and a great finish. The quality continues to soar at this estate under the helm of the Cazes family and this is a gem of a Pauillac well worth seeking out. Give it a few years and enjoy over the following two decades. 95/100

The 2019 Haut-Batailley has a precise and quite understated bouquet with mineral-rich black fruit, cedar and mint, just a very slight floral note developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite infused black fruit, classic in style, very well balanced with wonderful tension. It fans out effortlessly on the finish. Superb. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. 95/100

Max Gerstl: Da ist viel frische Frucht, aber fast noch mehr Terrior, das ist der Duft eines grossen Pauillac, herrlich aus der Tiefe kommend. Feine Tannine, enorme Konzentration aber genial leichtfüssig vorgetragen, herrlich saftiger, rassiger Wein, eine himmlische Erfrischung, sinnliche sehr präzise Aromatik, das macht enorm Trinkspass und der Wein besitzt eine nicht zu unterschätzende innere Grösse .19/20
