75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. 13,8% Alkohol. Der Ausbau erfolgt für 18 Monate im Barrique mit einem Neuholzanteil von 50%. Die im Schnitt 35 Jahre alten Reben haben 2023 einen recht guten Ertrag von 49 Hektolitern geliefert. In der Nase feine Kirsche in allen Schattierungen, dazu rote Johannisbeere und Pflaumenschalen. Auch Kirschkerne und heller Nougat. Im Mund dann sehr samtige, cremige Tannine. Dazu ein schicker Kern aus fleischigem, rotem Pfirsich und eine gute Säurefrische. Schöne Länge. Kein großer Wein, aber durchaus delikat.

2023 präsentiert sich als ein spektakuläres, wollüstiges Genusswunder, das die reife Opulenz eines warmen Jahres mit einer grandiosen, vibrierenden Frische vermählt. UND dieser Wein-Jahrgang gilt als absoluter Preis-Leistungs-Kracher, ist extrem charmant und zeigt von Beginn an eine unwiderstehliche, packende Trinkfreude.

This large-scaled, broad Saint-Émilion needs time to be at its best. The style leans very much into the more opulent end of the spectrum. Tasted two times.

A gorgeous, serious Saint-Emilion, the 2023 Château Grand Mayne offers ripe black cherries, graphite, sappy flowers, and spicy wood, with a hint of background chocolate. Based on 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and aged 16 months in 40% new French oak with the balance in one- and two-year-old barrels and foudre, it's medium-bodied and concentrated on the palate, with beautifully integrated oak, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. I'd happily have bottles in the cellar, and it will have two decades of prime drinking. Drink 2026-2045.
