Lobenberg: 85% CS, 15% Merlot. Mittleres Rubin. Noch sehr verschlossene Nase, frische Pflaume mit präsentem Holz, Gummiabrieb, Goudron und viel Blaubeere. Assoziation der Nase an Toro. Sehr eleganter Antrunk im Mund, sehr geschliffene und polierte, reichlich vorhandene Tannine, guter samtiger Fluss mit fein definierten Kanten. Seidig und voller Finesse. Zwetschge und rote Waldbeeren. Für die Sensation fehlt es in der Jugend noch etwas an Druck und Fleisch, vor allem aber an der Vermählung der Tannine mit der Säure, wird aber wohl noch kommen, wenn die überaus präsente Säure integriert ist, die Nase verspricht es eigentlich. Jetzt aber schon weich und charmant, so richtig schief gehen kann es also trotz des fehlenden Extradrucks nicht mehr. Scheint sehr viel Potenzial zu haben. 94-95+/100

-- Parker: In Bruno Borie's words, the 2008 Ducru Beaucaillou is 'well above 2004, with much more structure than 2007, and more sensuality than 2006.' I would add that it is even better than that, and as profound as the 2005. Approximately 33% of the crop made it into Ducru, which came in at 13.1% natural alcohol. This 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot blend reveals a dense opaque purple color as well as a gorgeously sweet bouquet of spring flowers, creme de cassis, blackberry liqueur, licorice, espresso roast, and spice. A testament to the density and richness of this wine is the fact that no oak is apparent in the aromas or flavors. The wine is unctuously textured, but analytically, it has a good level of total acid and sound pH. This fabulous offering will age effortlessly for 30-40+ years. Bruno Borie deserves accolades for the remarkable things he has accomplished at Ducru Beaucaillou over the last few years. 98/100

-- Neal Martin: Tasted at the chateau, the 2008 just surpasses my expectations from barrel. It has great clarity on the airy nose with blackberry, a touch of briary, cedar and graphite. The palate is finely balanced on the entry but then segues into a dense middle with bold, forthright tannins but counterbalanced with ample freshness and acidity. It is -classic- in style, linear but more feminine than masculine, with cedar and a touch of white pepper on the aftertaste. This is a great wine from Bruno Borie, perhaps a little more restrained in style than recent vintages with great breeding and elan. Drink 2014-2035. Tasted October 2010. 95/100

-- Decanter: The 2008 Ducru-Beaucaillou smells quite Cabernet-Sauvignon with an appealing bouquet of spices, blackcurrant, black berries, and green bell pepper touches. It has a tense and straight palate with building tannins but perfectly balanced. There is a hint of bell pepper and tobacco on the finish that amplify an impression of freshness on the long, airy finish. Its needs some time (10 years) to chill out. 95/100

-- Wine Cellar Insider: Youthful, medium/full-bodied, and still a bit firm. The wine is concentrated with layers of dark red berries, a touch of espresso. smoke, flowers, spice, cedar, and tobacco in the nose. On the palate, the wine is vibrant, elegant, and softening out, leaving you with dark red and black fruits, tobacco leaf, and freshness. Another year or two should add even more softness and roundness to the wine. Drink from 2024-2050. 95/100

-- Galloni: The 2008 Ducru-Beaucaillou has a fresh and vibrant nose. Occasionally this can come across a little stemmy and maybe it does here, but it is a facet that I think lends complexity and intrigue, touches of brine combining wonderfully with the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite firm tannins. There is a solid backbone to this Ducru-Beaucaillou; maybe this bottle is just closing in a little and one that would have benefitted from more decanting (indeed, it develops more precision in the glass.) Very fine, but give it more time. Tasted at the Ducru Beaucaillou vertical at the château. 94/100

-- Jancis Robinson: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon. 90% new oak. Seven different coopers. Only 35 out of an estate total of 100ha goes into this wine now, though it used to be much more (before La Croix existed as a distinct entity). Impressive density with a pale purple rim. Aromatic and dry but with a lot of rich, velvety mass in the middle. Pretty impressive! Marginally flashy but really makes a splash. Dry finish. Very firm with lots of dry tannin. Pretty confident and savoury.. Wait! Ambitious. Very 'masculine'. 18/20

-- Gerstl: Wow, das Ducru-Parfüm, diese Feinheit, diese Eleganz, diese Noblesse, das ist genau der Jahrgang, bei dem Ducru seine Qualitäten optimal ausspielen kann und es offensichtlich auch tut, eine Komplexität zum Staunen, was für ein wunderbar süsser Duft, klar, präzis und reintönig. Wir kommen vom Mittagessen auf Las Cases, haben uns köstlich amüsiert und viel gelacht, die Stimmung war ausgelassen, aber als dieser Ducru eingeschenkt wurde, herrschte plötzlich andächtige Stille. Auch am Gaumen ist einfach alles perfekt, ein graziler Tänzer, dieser sehr schlanke, elegante Wein ist von herz-erwärmender Schönheit, das ist eine sinnliche Melodie, ein Meditationswein, was für ein Erlebnis, nur schon diese Fassprobe. 19/20
