Das uralte Weingut wurde in den 1960er Jahren aufgeteilt, Couhins-Lurton wurde quasi abgespalten, das Ursprungschateau verblien beim Staat und wurde weiter vom französischen Agrarforschungsinstitut betrieben. Eine Experimentierstube auf höchstem Niveau, ohne jeglichen finanziellen Druck. Die Weißweine waren deshalb immer atemberaubend gut und sie gehören mit ihrem grandiosen Kies-Sand-Ton Terroir und der perfekten Drainage zum Allerbesten was Bordeaux in weiß heute zu bieten hat. DAS ist die benchmark für Sauvignon Blanc! Es gibt nichts vergleichbares für einen so spannenden Preis. Und das in Pessac und in direkter Nachbarschaft zu Bordeaux gelegene Weingut zählt Haut Brion, Pape Clement, Domaine de Chevalier und Smith Haut Lafitte. Schon gute Referenzen! Und die Jahre 23, 24 und 25 spielen dem Wein total in die Karten.

This is great in bottle as it was En Primeur, captures the grip and sense of mometum that the best whites have in this vintage. Sculpted citrus and lime zest, touch of sage and saffran, measured and juicy on the finish. Look out for this. Valerie Lavigne consultant winemaking, Jacques Lurton owner. Harvest September 9 to 27. The red is impressive in the vintage also, a success in both colours.

The 2021 Couhins Blanc turned out beautifully. Bright and focused, the 2021 possesses tons of verve that gives the wine its distinctive character. Lemon peel, sage, mint, crushed rocks and slate all race out of the glass. This is impeccably done.

Round and sweet at the beginning, and turns vigorous and strong on the finish. The high acidity of the 100% Sauvignon (including 4% Sauvignon Gris) and the clay-limestone soil effortlessly shape up the whole body of the wine. This powerful wine gives out fresh fragrances of bergamot and white peach in the mouth, and ends with the characteristic saltiness of the Couhins white. Absolutely an excellent Bordeaux white wine with huge potential.
