Lobenberg: Reichlich Lakritze und schwarze Frucht in der Nase. Hohe Intensität, alter Balsamico. Im Mund unglaubliche Würze, Kraft, Druck und Länge. Lakritze, wieder alter Balsamico, aber auch ein bisschen Soja. Viele Gewürze. Estragon und Koriander. Einfach ein Kraftpaket mit Frische und intensiv-reifer Frucht. Vielleicht nicht ganz auf der der Höhe der größten Weine von Château Calon Ségur. Er wirkt 2019 erstaunlicherweise etwas zu extrahiert. Der Wein hat Größe, ist aber nicht in der allerersten Reihe von Saint-Estèphe. 97-99/100

-- Galloni: The 2019 Calon Ségur is a wine of soaring vertical intensity and pure power. That's the good news. The not so good news is that it won't be ready to drink any time soon. Exotic spice, pencil shavings, crème de cassis, mocha and licorice are some of the nuances that develop in the glass, but those descriptions can't even begin to capture the sheer beauty of what is in the glass. I loved the 2019 from barrel and I love it just as much from bottle. 98/100

-- Wine Cellar Insider: Dark in color, not quite opaque, but close to it. The wine sports Asian spices, cedar, mint, charcoal, blackberry and espresso in the nose. On the palate, the wine is opulent, bordering on decadent, silky, velvety and rich. The fruit glides over your palate displaying its purity with back notes of chocolate, black cherry, tobacco and herbs. This is a very textural wine that is clearly one of the stars of the vintage. The wine was made from blending 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, reaching 14.5% alcohol, which is a good thing so all my American friends can buy this beauty! 96-98/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Another tremendous wine from this estate, the 2019 Château Calon Ségur comes from 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and a tiny splash of Petit Verdot. Brought up all in new French oak, its ruby/purple color is followed by a ripe, sexy Saint-Estèphe loaded with notions of crème de cassis, black cherries, roasted herbs, lavender, and tobacco leaf. It shows more classic lead pencil and damp earth notes with time in the glass, and it's full-bodied, has a rocking opulence and decadence in its mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and a beautiful finish. This is as sexy and seductive as Saint-Estèphe gets, yet it still has class, with flawless balance, sound structure, and just everything in the right place. It's rare for a young wine to pack so much richness while at the same time staying weightless. Bravo to the team at Calon Ségur yet again. 96-98/100

The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with tightly wound, muscular black fruits and loads of bright floral accents, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and graceful. 95-97+/100
