Fast 50 Jahre alte Godello. Auf bis zu 600 Metern Höhe. Im großen Holzfuder vergoren und ausgebaut. Keine 3000 Flaschen.

After the red Dolio, they produced a new white to be sold at La Place de Bordeaux, the 2023 Cornamús. It's a Godello, mostly from Aviador, a steep vineyard planted 20 years ago on gneiss, quartz and slate soils, and a small percentage of other grapes. It fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and matured in a 2,000-liter oak foudre with lees for 15 months. The vineyard is from a cooler, higher-altitude zone (500+ meters) close to Castro Caldelas, and it delivered a vibrant wine with 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.2 coupled with six grams of acidity. The nose is different from the other whites. The wine comes through as more nuanced and detailed and is fresh and sharper, with a vibrant palate. 3,050 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2025.

(Ribeira Sacra DO; 100% Godello planted on two very steeply sloping terraced vineyards at 200 and 600 metres of altitude; aged for 15 months in oak foudres; 13.5% alcohol; just 3050 bottles produced). A new presence on la place. Fascinating and, again, highly distinctive. Wild mint, Bergamotte, eucalyptus, privet, a hint of yuzu too and some lovely subtle floral notes. In the mouth this is, for now at least, dominated by the citrus – above all citron pressé and white grapefruit zest. There’s a more herbal element too – fennel seed and oregano, marjoram perhaps. Indeed, we have here something like the parfumier’s essence of mountain herbs. Fabulous. Glassy and intensely fresh with a rapier like clarity. Sapidity and salinity combine on the finish to render this even more succulent and juicy. Delicate and very refined yet vivid and vibrant at the same time. This has much in common with wines like Asphodèle and Lilium from Château Climens, above all in its crystallinity and that signature ‘white’ florality.

A new and interesting addition to La Place de Bordeaux this year. Super flowery aromatics with lemon juice and some white grapefruit. A slightly waxy, oily texture with some burnt caramel alongside peach and pear. Quite a savoury take with bright and zesty citrus elements alongside pronounced saltiness. Complex and enjoyable. Director Fabio González Pérez and winemaker Fernando González Riveiro

A blossom of white flowers on the opening aromatics, fragrant and enticing, elderflower is dominant, alongside lilies and apple blossom, clear saline kick, sea spray and oyster shell alongside crisp citrus and lime zest. Full of energy and extremely moreish. Great stuff. Fernando Gonzalez Riveiro winemaker, 3ha of vines entirely from the Godello grape. Granite, quartz and gneiss soils, steep slopes from 200-600m altitude, dry farmed, fermented in 1000l oak casks, native yeasts, then 15 months in large oak casks, producing 3,000 bottles. First time on the Place. Tasted twice, already looking forward to the next time. This is a textbook 94 point wine that is hard to not drink way too quickly.

Algueira has produced this new white wine to be released on La Place. It is mostly Godello with a tiny bit of Caiño Blanco, and is aged a little longer than Escalada for 15 months in French foudres. Aromas are floral and pretty while the palate offers a stony texture and just enough creaminess to make this inviting. It is a layered wine, currently tightly wound but it will open up with time in bottle. 3,000 bottles produced.
