Lobenberg: Syrah mit 5% Viognier in 950 Meter Höhe gewachsen. Organic. Vergoren und ausgebaut in Tonneaus von 500 Litern. Pure Nordrhone-Stilistik. Unglaublich fein und verspielt, dabei Finesse in Konzentration wenn es das gibt. Denn der Wein hat richtig hintergründige Power unter der puren Finesse! Dabei so unendlich mineralisch, würzig, genial verspielte, gleichwohl intensive Syrah mit genialer schwarzer Frucht, Teer, Schinkenspeck und Rauch im Nachhall. Holz nicht spürbar, nur Terroir und satte schwarze, typische Nordrhone-Frucht. Immense Vibrationen, pfeffrig, etwas Chili. Was ihn jedoch auch wieder klar von der Nordrhone unterscheidet ist seine vornehme Zartheit, fast etwas abgehoben mit diesem spielerischen Touch. An der Rhone muss diese Feinheit, um die es ja final immer geht, deutlich mehr kosten. Bravo für diesen schicken Wein, eine Ode an die Freude. 96/100

Parker über: Dos Dedos De Frente

-- Parker: The darkest of the reds, the 2020 Dos Dedos de Frente is a ripe and powerful Syrah. It's showy, perfumed and heady, hedonistic and supple, with less oak than in previous years. It comes from grapes from a supplier working together against ripeness and alcohol, working organically and with infusion of plants and regenerative agriculture. It fermented with some 6% Viognier. The change in this is 13.9% alcohol, avoiding high ripeness, using more neutral barrels and letting the wine rest in tank after the élevage in oak, delivering a wine with more varietal character à la Rhône, with a mixture of violets, tar and bacon fat. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant but fine-grained tannins. 6,995 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2023. 95/100

-- Suckling: Smoky and meaty character here with plums and dark cherries as well as sweet spices and bark. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine, polished tannins. Spicy and dark-fruited. Broad-shouldered and even on the palate with a juicy, vibrant finish. Hints of crushed stones and white pepper, too. 95% syrah and 5% viognier co-fermented. Drink or hold. 94/100

Weingut über: Dos Dedos De Frente

-- Weingut: This is the 12th release of this high altitude, late ripening Syrah blend. Grapes were hand picked into 20kg cases starting on 16th September (10 days earlier than usual) from the single estate of Finca del Val. Grapes were stored at 1-2 degrees for 48 hours in a cool room before gentle crushing and cold soak for a further 6 days. The must was then warned and fermentation commenced with punch downs and pigeage. We co-fermented the Viognier with the Syrah having harvested at the same time. Aged for 14 months in a mixture of old 650 litre French oak pipes, 500 litre old puncheons from Sylvain (which I believe really complement Syrah, reinforcing the spicy side of the variety) and a very low toast selection of 500 litre Stockinger barrels which respect fruit and typicity.
