Colin Hay über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 5 Nouvelle Vague

Offered as part of the Kollektion case or separately. I tasted this before discovering the level of residual sugar – it would be impossible to guess. Brilliantly and staggeringly fresh. So pure too. Crab apple and a little pêche de vigne, white pear. A subtle hint of burnt sugar bitterness. Mandarin zest. Confit rose petal. A hint of fresh ginger and the additional lift that suggests. Delicate in the mouth at first, subtle and tender, so soft and densely textured – here like the flesh of the ripest peach. A study in fruit purity as ever. Often Kracher’s grands cuvees are racier and more vibrant, this is more relaxed and brilliantly harmonious. Fabulous.

Aromas of sweet quince and honeydew melon. The full-bodied palate is bright and linear yet exuberant, with a touch of toffee and an enveloping saline character in the finish. The chardonnay component of this cuvee is fermented and aged in French oak, while the welschriesling is aged in large Slavonian oak. Drink now or hold.

Falstaff über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 5 Nouvelle Vague

A bright, medium golden yellow with silvery highlights. On the nose, an enticing blend of spicy botrytis aromas and hints of fine oak, ripe tropical fruits, and bourbon vanilla, with ripe pineapple and a subtle touch of wildflower honey in the background. On the palate, the wine is taut and dense, with notes of ripe apricot, well-integrated sweetness, remarkable lightness, and a mineral, salty texture. It has beautiful length and excellent aging potential.

Stuart Pigott über: Trockenbeerenauslese Grande Cuvée No. 5 Nouvelle Vague

Exquisite tropical fruit coulis character is married to caramel richness, toasty oak, citrus freshness and serious power without the result becoming a jot too much. Very long and creamy finish, but there’s enough positive energy to lift it, pulling you back for more decadence. A cuvée of Welschriesling and Chardonnay produced since 1991.
