100% Macabeo. Das ist wie vom anderen Stern! Gekühlte Ganztraubenmaische der aus alten Reben stammenden Trauben. Nach 2 Tagen abgepresst und im offenen 1000 Liter Holzfass vergoren. Ausbau danach ohne Batonnage im 500 Liter gebrauchten Tonneau. Blasses Gelb. Blumig mineralische Zitrusnase, Salz und Stein dazu, extrem klar und transparent und reintönig. Toller Geradeauslauf, sehr fokussiert. Fast ohne Druck, leicht und schwebend und doch sehr intensiv für ein langes langes Leben. Unendlich lang und nachhallend. Ein ganz großer, ganz klarer Weißwein, großes transparentes Mineral-Kino. Einer der allerbesten Weißweine Europas!

Jahrgangsbericht

Der Ausnahme-Jahrgang 2022 gilt in Spanien als historischer Meilenstein. Trotz Rekordhitze bestechen die Weine dank kühler Sommernächte mit verblüffend tiefen pH-Werten, spektakulärer Säurefrische und seidigen Tanninen – eine grandiose, perfekt balancierte Dichte auf Augenhöhe mit dem großen Bordeaux-Jahrgang.

From an old vineyard in Alpartir, Aragón, the 2022 Macabeo Jardín de las Iguales displays classic Macabeo aromas of herbs and fennel with hints of green apple and delicate oak. Layers of iodine and a faint seaweed nuance add complexity. The palate is dry and lean, with chalky textures and a muscular tension through the long, energetic finish. A subtle echo of Mediterranean scrub lingers. This serious and distinctive white is a standout among Spain’s new generation of white wines—unmistakably Aragonese in character and voice.

The super pale and subtle white 2022 El Jardín de las Iguales Macabeo is a wine that feels a lot younger than it is, undeveloped and young. It comes from the same vineyard, a centenary plot, and with the same process as in previous years, fermented and matured in a 1,000-liter oak foudre. It has a complex nose with notes of dry yellow flowers and pollen and a round palate with texture, chalky minerality and a very long finish. It is complete and complex, just a more tender than the 2021, which was more chiseled. This is a wine that really grows in bottle. It was a success to hold it for one year before releasing it, and that's why the vintage in the market is one year older than the red. 1,305 bottles produced, a good year for quality and quantity. It was bottled in July 2024.

This opens with aromas of chamomile, white flowers, stones and a subtle hint of fennel. The palate is delineated, distinct and refined, with compact stone fruit running through its core and a saline thread that gives it energy. The finish is intense and vibrant, showing impressive length and contained ripeness that unfolds with elegance. This is the producer’s top single vineyard, planted on a northeastern-facing site in the vicinity of Alpartir. Drink now or hold.

Burnt lemon peel, flint and subtle iodine notes define a strikingly energetic nose. On the palate, it is still a baby – vibrant, tightly coiled, and full of life. There is remarkable drive and salinity through the mid palate, with a razor-sharp precision that gives the wine a thrilling sense of direction. Intensely savoury, deeply expressive, and already hinting at great complexity to come. A truly great wine in the making.

Angefangen hat bei Fernando Mora alles mit seiner Badewanne zu Hause in Saragossa, dort machte er seine ersten Gehversuche als Winemaker. Und das Ergebnis war durchaus trinkbar. Hochmotiviert war das der Anlass, nach geeigneten Weinbergen und Parzellen zu suchen.
