On the palate, the wine is silky, elegant, refined, and packed with the essence of minerality adding complexity to its layers of cherries and plums. The fruits express purity and symmetry in the finish. The wine blends 72% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.15% ABV, 3.45 pH. Harvesting took place September 7 - October 6. The wine is aging in 30% new French oak barrels, 30% in foudres and 40% in used oak barrels. Drink from 2027 - 2050. 96-98/100

-- Parker: The 2022 Bellefont Belcier, a blend of 72% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, confirms all our expectations placed on it during the en primeur tasting. Wafting from the glass with a fresh, delicate and complex bouquet of dark wild berries, flowers, iris, cassis and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, suave and seamless with a deep core of fruit and a vibrant, energetic mid-palate framed by delicate, refined tannins and culminating in a long, saline finish with chalky dry extracts. It will offer a broad drinking window.

-- Decanter: Lovely aromatic profile with seriously perfumed scents of red berry fruit, roses, clove and dried herbs. Hints of the vintage come through in the ripe fruit with just chewy tannins while the freshness appears from high acidity with a salty tang on the finish. This combines power and push with energy and focus creating a layered and characterful wine. It's still a touch serious - lots of sticky liquorice, clove, bitter chocolate, tobacco and aniseed spice but delivers intensity and appeal in equal measure. Wait for a few years before opening.

Gerstl über: Chateau Bellefont Belcier Grand Cru Classe

-- Gerstl: Ein Traum von einem Duft, das ist schlicht ein magisches Bordeaux-Parfum! Sinnlich süße und reife, schwarze Kirschenfrucht mit Brombeere, Holunder und Zwetschge, aber auch Johannisbeere, Himbeere und Erdbeere. Das ist ein Fruchtschwall der Extra- klasse. Die Dichte der Aromatik wirkt aber trotzdem sehr elegant dank einem kühlen, würzigen und tiefgründigen Hintergrund. Im Auftakt kraftvoll, aber zugleich auch elegant und fein. Man ist hin- und hergerissen zwischen der Fülle und der Leichtigkeit dieses wundervollen Weines. Alles ist hier am richtigen Platz – Säure, Frucht, Extraktsüsse, Tannine. Der tanzt, strahlt, schwebt, gleitet unbeschreiblich delikat über den Gaumen. Ein ganz grosser Bellefont-Belcier, der den Jahrgang auf den Punkt bringt und wunderschön widerspiegelt. (pb) 20/20

Das Weingut ist zu Recht aufgestiegen in den Olymp des Saint Emilion, ernannt zum Grand Cru Classé. Es gehörte vorher niemand Geringerem als dem früheren Cheval-Blanc-Mitbesitzer Dominique Hebrard, Sohn des früheren Cheval-Blanc-Regisseurs Jacques Hebrard.
