Die Einzellage Les Manyes ist alljährlich Anwärter auf Parkers Top 5. 100% Garnacha strahlt hier mit einem funkelnden Granat im Glas. Zunächst verblüfft die feine Ätherik. Eine Verbindung aus Brombeere, Cassis und Fichtennadeln. Am Gaumen ist der Les Manyes ganz weich, anders als sein Bruder aus der Einzellage Les Tosses. Die Unterschiede sind so deutlich und Jahr für Jahr offensichtlich, wie bei Giacomo Conternos Francia und Cerretta. Zwei unterschiedliche Ausdrücke einer großartigen Region. Beide voller Potenzial aber hocheigenständige Lagenweine. Die Tannine sind ultra zart aber deutlich vorhanden, viel saftige Beeren kommen hinzu und ein vibrierendes Säurespiel. Kühl und seidig zugleich. Der Wein zeigt den klaren Charakter des Grenache. Die ausgeprägte Fruchtigkeit ist da. Aber hier wurde sie zu einem Wein von Weltklasse ausgebaut.

Jahrgangsbericht

Der spektakuläre Jahrgang 2023 gilt in Spanien als Meilenstein der Eleganz. Deutlich balancierter als 2022, präsentieren sich die Weine als reife, ungemein harmonische Version von 2020. Sie bestechen mit einer steinigen Reduktion, atemberaubender Sauberkeit und einer präzisen Symmetrie von absolutem Weltrang.

The vines of the 2023 Les Manyes are Garnacha Peluda planted in a place that has more in common with zones from Montsant than the majority of Priorat, on red clay soils at a high altitude, 800 meters, over the monastery and village of Scaladei. It's a biotype of Garnacha that is more resistant to drought, more rustic, and it achieved less sugar/alcohol and kept a special brightness and elegance. The full clusters had a short native fermentation of around eight days in concrete, and the wine matured in concrete for eight months. It's the palest and most delicate of the 2023 reds, really fine-boned and with that ethereal quality of lightness, strength and energy. This is the shining star of the portfolio, superb in 2023. It's shy in the beginning but opens up to a very pretty wine in the glass, reminiscent of the 2021 vintage. 3,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024.

One of the grand crus of the producer’s lineup, the 2023 Les Manyes is 100% Garnatxa Peluda, a variant that imports more acidity and freshness than its brethren in which the hairy leaves capture humidity in the air and transfer it into freshness. Supple and refined, the wine is elegant with length and texture, aged eight months in concrete after whole-cluster fermentation over 7-8 days. It’s a simply gorgeous showcase for a lighter style of tremendous sophistication from the region. Hold and drink best 2030-2043.

A year of reduced yields at Les Manyes has delivered a wine of tension and presence, ripe earthy fruits, strawberries and dark berries sitting alongside potpourri florals, pepper and undergrowth, constantly evolving in the glass, showing more intensity than cooler years yet retaining its singular voice. On par with the stunning 2021 - a touch more ripeness, a touch more oomf; this is about as good as it gets. The wine of the report. I am smitten.

The 2023 Les Manyes from Priorat is 100% Garnatxa Peluda. Expressive, it displays red fruits ranging from morello to cherry, followed by herbs, mint, rosemary and delicate garrigue with a touch of fresh pomegranate. Reminiscent of summer fruit, it is dry, broad and lightly grippy. The house style shows through in its infusion-like texture with a delicate but compact finish. A novel expression for Priorat, it pushes the region’s limits while remaining true to its dry, sunny and aromatic character.

A complex, aerial and pristine garnacha peluda, exhibiting aromas of crushed wild strawberries, forest berries, crushed stones, dried thyme and some dried spices as well. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Plenty of energy and drive with generous fruit, but it always remains in control. Seductive volume and a velvety touch brings elegance and juiciness. Poised, infused and authentic. Long finish. Drink or hold.,
