Arbois Chardonnay Patchwork
The 2024 Patchwork Chardonnay could be one of the finest vintages for this blend of grapes from different soils, reflecting the patchwork structure of the Jura soils, 60% Chardonnay from clay (marl) soils and 40% from limestone, but in 2024, some of the new vines that were planted on Kimmeridgian limestone soils from the late Jurassic period came into production, and some of that juice made it into the 2024 blend. So, it might have a little more limestone components than in the past. After the very warm and dry 2022 and 2023, 2024 was a cooler year with good ripeness and good balance, and the wines are fresher, more in line with 2021, but also marked by killer frosts that decimated the crop. It has notes of citrus and fennel and a dry and chalky texture, and it's fine boned and tasty, with better balance between alcohol and acidity that in 2023. It's a very good Patchwork!
