Das ist einer der wirklich urwüchsigen Unikate von Raul. Und recht massiv vom Lehmboden, also nicht die Eleganz des Vitoriana Vizcaina vom Sand. Dazu alles Ganztraube und spontan vergoren. Kaum Holz spürbar, der Wein ist absichtlich im neutralen Walnuss-Fass ausgebaut. Power ohne Ende aber dennoch kein Blockbuster, eher urwüchsig unikathaft cool-climate. Grandioser Stoff.

Jahrgangsbericht

Der spektakuläre Jahrgang 2023 gilt in Spanien als Meilenstein der Eleganz. Deutlich balancierter als 2022, präsentieren sich die Weine als reife, ungemein harmonische Version von 2020. Sie bestechen mit einer steinigen Reduktion, atemberaubender Sauberkeit und einer präzisen Symmetrie von absolutem Weltrang.

The 2023 Ultreia La Vitoriana was my favorite in the Ultreia range. It's floral, complex, elegant and with great depth, superb tannins and a superb texture. Like all the 2023 from the Ultreia range, it fermented with 100% full clusters with a maceration of 35 to 40 days and matured in a 225-liter oak barrel. They harvested it quite late, as it took a long time to ripen the grapes. The result is spectacular, perfumed and floral. There is a big part of the vineyard where the soils are sandy, and they might be responsible for the finesse and the silky texture. It's very perfumed, but at the same time, it's a very serious red. Only 700 bottles were produced; it makes three or four barrels, no more.

Very subtle and floral, showing dark rose notes with a gentle aromatic lift. The palate has enveloping tannins and a compact yet expressive core of fruit, delivering exacting balance and discreet richness. From a unique U-shaped vineyard whose hillside contours lend harmony and complexity, yielding a complete wine with nervy precision. Whole-cluster fermented with a long maceration. Drink or hold.
