The 2021 Riesling Heiligenstein Steinwand is from the western flank of the slope. While it gets afternoon sun, the moment the sun sets, the same cool winds that have blown away any loess and exposed the rock whistle with cool freshness. Only a shy notion of red-green apple brightness appears on the nose, followed by a mere hint of orange peel. The perfume is tender but distinct, with just a notion of yarrow. The palate is absolutely taut. Stony, sinewy and elongated with freshness, this is the epitome of stone surrounded by vivid fruit: juicy, tart apple, vivacious citrus and mouthwatering juiciness.
