Lobenberg: Drückende, schwarzbeerige Schokonase mit Veilchen und Lakritze. Im Mund eine ungeahnte Wucht und viel Körper, dabei immer noch die unverwechselbare klassische Linie, schwarze Frucht in Massen, konzentriert und Unmengen an Tannin, die aber unglaublich fein sind. Dunkler Kakao, leichte Minznote. After Eight und schwarze Kirsche mit Cassis und Brombeere. Vielleicht der bis dahin beste Sociando aller Zeiten.

This is top-flight, classified growth-quality stuff. So what's new? This continues to be an over-achieving estate! It will be long-lived. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2028.

-- Galloni: Bright ruby-red. Rich, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, minerals and cocoa powder. Big, dense, lush and deep, but with lovely sappy vinosity; this expands impressively to fill the mouth. Finishes very long, with suave, broad tannins and a note of black olive. A gloriously successful vintage for Sociando-Mallet, offering a full range of cabernet aromatics.

-- Jane Anson: The colour is vivid ruby, young, with a gentle welcoming open to the palate, deepened by grilled cedar smoke, capsicum and brambled blackberry. Not quite the same depth through the mid palate as many 2000s, but it is balanced out by mouthwatering acidites on the finish. 90ha in production at this point, 45hl/h yield, unfined and just light filtration before bottling, 100% new oak for 12 months then 6 months in vat, 18 months in total, 65hl/h yield. Michel-Bernard Couasnon consultant. Harvest September 29 to October 11.
