Lobenberg: 66 Prozent Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 Prozent Merlot, acht Prozent Cabernet Franc und ein Prozent Petit Verdot. Montrose hat jetzt eine famose Serie von Jahrgängen seit 2016 hingelegt. Wir sind durchaus immer auf dem gleichen Level oder höher als Cos d’Estournel, wir sind auf dem gleichen Level wie Pichon Lalande. Das ist ein wahrer Verfolger der Premier Crus! 2022 hat eine ultrafeine Nase mit schicker roter Frucht. Himbeere, singende Blumigkeit von Veilchen und Rosenblättern. Ganz fein! Und was ich beim »Dame de Montrose« schon sagte: Die Stilistik von Erst- und Zweitwein ist unglaublich ähnlich. In 2022 so sehr von der Feinheit und der hellen Blütenduftigkeit mit roter Frucht geprägt. Feine rote Kirsche kommt langsam hinter dem Nougat und der hellen Lakritze durch. Unglaublich fein und spielerisch bleibend. Eine echte Delikatesse! Geniale Frische im Mund. Wow, Mund und Augen ziehen sich zusammen! Aber nichts ist aggressiv, es ist nur unglaublich dicht. Eine seidige Tanninwolke in großer Dichte… Das Ganze mit so viel Himbeere, Erdbeere, Sauerkirsche und Cranberry. Alles wird unterlegt von Nougat. Die Ähnlichkeit zum »Dame de Montrose« ist wirklich faszinierend. Hier haben wir den Turbolader! Alle Regler nach rechts – eine unendliche Feinheit und Delikatesse… Im Gegensatz zu Cos ist das kein Kracher, sondern einfach nur unendlich fein, schick und balanciert. Für mich im Grunde der schönere Lafite Rothschild in dieser Feinheit. Er hat alles, was ein ultrafeiner, hochklassiger Wein braucht. Das könnte ein Pauillac der Oberklasse sein mit seiner Stilistik. Er zerfließt einfach nur in Schönheit. Großer ultrafeiner Montrose, ganz ohne Zweifel. 100+/100 *** In einer der besten Lagen der Appellation, hoch oben, mit wunderbarem Blick auf die Gironde, liegt Château Montrose.

Årgang 2022 er en multikompleks, kontrastfuld, heterogen og helt usædvanlig årgang - åbenlyse konsekvenser af klimaforandringer? Rhone har således oplevet to ekstreme, paradoksale og diametralt modsatte årgange i de sidste to år. 2021 var iskold, kølig og regnfuld, klassisk spændende med køligt klima. 2022 var derimod alt for tør og ekstremt solrig. Denne hurtige ændring er noget forvirrende, og 2022 sætter endda permanent spørgsmålstegn ved nogle vinmarkers fremtid. Årgang 2022, som allerede er blevet erklæret for en af de bedste årgange i det sidste årti, og som nogle endda sammenligner med 1978, har nogle vidunderlige, endda storslåede overraskelser i vente i nord, men også nogle bitre skuffelser i syd. Ikke desto mindre er vinstokkenes modstandsdygtighed over for ekstreme klimatiske forhold forbløffende! Den mere eller mindre intense nedbør i midten af august og september reddede de vinmarker og områder, hvor point of no return endnu ikke var nået på grund af vandstress, men nogle gange var det for sent. 2022 er således præget af en meget stærk heterogenitet mellem og også inden for appellationer, hvor storslået skønhed og udtørret, umoden elendighed ofte ligger tæt på hinanden, og hvor alting hænger i en tynd tråd. Vores smagninger hos producenterne og vores omhyggelige udvælgelse er endnu vigtigere end nogensinde i denne 2022-årgang. Sydlige Rhône: I modsætning til forventningerne er de hvide harmoniske, aromatiske og ikke fede og alkoholiske, der er mange store succeser. Fantastisk og fremragende! Kvaliteten af de røde vine er meget mere heterogen. Ubalancerede, disharmoniske, skøre og hårde tanniner og manglende fenolisk modenhed kan findes i mange unge vinstokke. Kun meget gamle vinstokke med minimalt udbytte og dybe rødder giver komplekse og yndefulde, endda meget store vine af historisk ekstraklasse. Nordlige Rhône: Det køligere nord blev skånet for de fleste af årgangens problemer. Fuld modenhed blev næsten altid opnået, og alkoholniveauet forblev moderat. Smagene af de lige så store hvide og røde vine er frodige, fyldige og alligevel faste. Vine med typicitet og stil, som vil glæde både sommelierer og restauranter. En historisk stor årgang!

-- The Wine Palate: Powerful, Bold, Black Fruit, Cassis, Violets, Earthy, Full bodied, Refreshing Acidity, Subtle Oak, Velvety Texture, High Tannin, Needs Time. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out with powerful notes of crème de cassis, preserved plums, and garrigue, giving way to nuances of candied violets, Sichuan pepper, and mossy tree bark, plus a touch of iron ore. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with black fruit preserves layers, supported by super-firm, super-ripe tannins and bags of freshness, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. Epic.

-- Galloni: The 2022 Montrose is insanely beautiful. That much is obvious. When it might be ready to drink is another question. In recent years, Montrose has acquired notable finesse in its tannins, so that is not an issue. But the 2022 is packed with tremendous density and concentration that will need time to soften. Blackberry, graphite, licorice, lavender and chocolate stain the palate in a stunning, riveting wine of the very highest level. I can only hope to be around when the 2022 starts to drink well! Montrose is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Unforgettable.

-- Parker: From barrel, I wrote that 2022 Montrose was so compelling that assigning it a bracketed score seemed a mere formality, and so it has proven. Unwinding in the glass with a deep and brooding bouquet of cassis, wild blueberries, violets, pencil shavings and burning embers, it's full-bodied, deep and dense, somehow marrying all the tannic authority that has long been such a signature of Montrose with a suavity and purity that represents the quintessence of contemporary Bordeaux. The broad, palate-staining finish lasts for more than a minute. This is a profound young wine that readers aren't going to want to miss.

-- Jeb Dunnuck: The 2022 Château Montrose is a classic blend of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, all of which was brought up in 60% new oak from a variety of coopers. Another absolutely brilliant wine in the vintage, it offers a saturated purple hue as well as an essence of Montrose-like bouquet of currants, blueberries, damp earth, violets, graphite, and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied, incredibly concentrated, and powerful, it nevertheless has a riveting sense of purity, precision, and finesse that's hard to believe. Given its balance and purity of fruit, as well as the quality of the tannins, it's going to offer incredible pleasure with just 4-6 years of bottle age (a decade would be best) yet be just about immortal if well stored. 98-100/100

Dicht verwobenes, tiefgründiges Bouquet, eine volle Ladung dunkles Graphit, exotisches Edelholz und zartes Fliederparfüm. Im zweiten Ansatz frischer schwarzer Bergpfeffer, Olivenpaste und Wildkirsche. Am komplexen Gaumen mit seidiger Textur, körnigem Extrakt, gutem Druck, energiegeladener Rasse. Spiegelt die DNA von Montrose perfekt wider mit seinem verlangenden Tanningerüst sowie dem muskulösen Körper mit perfekt definierten Muskeln. Im konzentrierten Finale schwarzbeerige Konturen, tiefschürfende Terroirwürze und feinkörnige Adstringenz. Ganz großes Montrose-Kino, dafür kann es nur die Bestnote geben. -- Decanter: A deep heady nose filled with fragrant black fruit, liquorice, tobacco and violets. Sumptuous and seductive, this walks the fine line between presenting the vintage with a heady, charged palate full of sun-kissed fruit and lashings of liquorice spice with pristine cherries and blackcurrants and a vein of salty, crushed stone and iron minerality. Gorgeous acidity keeps the profile lifted and almost airy before the density of the aromatics and flavours comes into play. So well constructed, this has muscles and serious power but within a sleek frame and a delicate chalky touch on the finish.

It is a flourishing flower of life, nurtured by passion. This tasting experience wholly changes my established memory of rich berries and intense toasting, revealing a captivating floral landscape with a mere swirl of the glass. The intertwined fragrances of violet and rose mingle with the rich aroma of pine nuts and toasted pumpkin seeds, bathing the blessing of nature. The clay layer beneath the gravelly highlands and the delicate extraction grant it unparalleled smoothness, transforming the copious, highly concentrated black fruits into the surging Yarlung Tsangpo River. This is the apex I had longed for, an everlasting monument to Château Montrose. - Alexandre Ma 98-100/100

-- The Wine Independent: The 2022 Montrose is composed of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, aging in 60% new oak. Deep garnet-purple in color, it slowly unfurls to offer a gorgeous perfume of violets, star anise, wilted roses, cumin seed, and garrigue, giving way to a core of blackcurrant pastilles, boysenberry preserves, and kirsch. The full-bodied palate is a firework display of graceful, highly nuanced fruit, featuring mineral, floral, black fruit, and red berry sparks, supported by very firm, super-ripe tannins and incredible freshness, finishing very long, vibrant, and shimmery. The yield was 31 hl/ha and the First Wine represents 50% of the 2022 production. -- VVWine: Dichtes Rubin, im Kern fast Schwarz. Die Nase ist mind-blowing, tiefgründig und mit grosser, aromatischer Komplexität, Cassis, Herzkirschen, Heidelbeeren, Pfeffer, dazu die fast schon obligaten Veilchennoten, die in diesem Jahrgang Bordeaux prägen, viel Mineralik, ungemein nobel und kühl anmutend. Der Gaumen beginnt harmlos, baut dann aus, der wein füllt den Mund, eine Wand von superfeinen Tanninen umgarnen die Frucht, die Tannine sind sehr seidig, immer da, nie im Vordergrund, das ist ein Konzentrat aus Frucht, Struktur und Frische, wer Montrose kennt, der weiss, welche Kraft in diesem Wein steckt, hier haben wir es mit einer Eisernen Faust im Seidenhandschuh zu tun. Grosse Länge, sehr mineralisches Finish, ein Montrose-Monument, das für eine kleine Ewigkeit gebaut ist. 2030-2065+ 98-100/100

-- Gerstl: Pierre Graffeuille: «Der Jahrgang 2022 bot uns ein klimatisches Szena- rio nahe den Extremen, das die ganze Kraft und Widerstandsfähigkeit des Terroirs von Montrose hervorhob und zur Geltung brachte.» Allein dieser Duft ist ein berührend sinnliches Erlebnis, eine ge- ballte Ladung schwarze Frucht und doch so zart, voller himmlischer Finessen. Das ist eine kleine Duftorgie in Bezug auf die immense Fülle der Aromen, gleichzeitig ist es ein filigranes, überaus raffiniertes Par- füm. War Montrose schon einmal so superfein in den Tanninen, gab es schon einmal eine ähnlich eindrückliche Tanninmasse? Allein die Tanninstruktur ist ein Wunder an Präzision, dann die Art und Wei- se, wie verspielt leichtfüssig dieses immens konzentrierte Kraftpaket daherkommt, das aromatische Feuerwerk, die einzigartige Frische, die sagenhafte Extraktsüsse. Das ist ein Montrose-Monument der Ex- traklasse und ein berührender Filigrantänzer, gehört auch dieses Jahr zu den beeindruckendsten Weinen von Bordeaux. 20+/20
