Der kontrastreiche Extrem-Jahrgang 2022 zeigt sich an der Rhône ungemein heterogen und faszinierend. Während der kühlere Norden grandiose, pralle und zugleich straffe Jahrhundertweine mit moderatem Alkohol hervorbringt, liefern im Süden vor allem die uralten Reben tiefgründige, historische Qualitäten.

A super-stony wine that is demanding, but will reward every second of attention that you give it. Very fine Mirabelle plum and golden pear aromas. Still very tightly wound on the super-focused, medium- to full-bodied palate. The texture is the other totally amazing thing about this exceptionally beautiful expression of the marsanne grape. Super-long finish. Drink or hold.

Surprisingly full-bodied for L'Ermite, richer in body than a classic vintage. This is precise and fine, with notes of lemon verbena and struck flint. Reductive now, so give it time, but there's great drive and focus. Unusually high acidity (3.2-3.3 pH) which is rare for Marsanne. From east-facing vineyards situated around the chapel, which are the only white vineyards on the granitic part of Hermitage, other than Dard & Ribo's plots. 98/100

Crushed stone, orange blossom, marmalade, and liquid rocks all emerge from the 2022 Ermitage L'Ermite Blanc, a more closed, inward, yet incredibly pure Hermitage Blanc. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully concentrated on the palate, it shows integrated acidity and a vibrant, focused character. As always, it's 100% Marsanne and was aged in 90% demi-muids (25% new) and 10% stainless steel for 14 months. This serious white will evolve for 15-20 years. Drink 2025-2045.
