Senora de las Alturas Garnacha 2022
/100

The 2022 Señora de Las Alturas is riper, with 13.95% alcohol, reflecting a warm and dry year of concentration and clout but still balanced and harmonious. This centenary Garnacha vineyard on deep gravel, clay and calcium carbonate soils has a good ability to retain water and always delivers elegant and delicate wines. It has complexity and depth, nicely textured with fine-grained, chalky tannins, with a little more roundness this year. It fermented in open 1,000-liter pools with 5% each Garnacha Blanca and Mazuela (Cariñena) and matured in four second-year 500-liter French oak barrels. Super tasty. 2,600 bottles were filled in January 2024.

Suckling über: Senora de las Alturas Garnacha
Ripe, racy red berries with grapefruit and minerals. Quite concentrated despite the deceivingly light and transparent color, which highlights the brightness of the fruit. An abundance of chalky tannins with a long, focused finish. Very true to the garnacha character, which delivers bones and some flesh, but this is far from a heavy garnacha. Drink or hold.,

Tim Atkin über: Senora de las Alturas Garnacha
Despite the warmer vintage, the 2022 offers an immediacy and richness that is highly, appealing. From a very old, pre-phylloxera single vineyard, this Garnacha is incredibly, pretty with rose petal, red cherry and a hint of cola. A touch of rhubarb sourness and blood, orange add zest, on top of a vibrant stony core makes for a lively palate that is very refreshing, and morish. It is a wine at once sublimely elegant and complex, offering glass after glass of,pleasure!

Galloni über: Senora de las Alturas Garnacha
The 2022 Señora de las Alturas is Garnacha from the El Pontigo site in eastern Navarra. Pale garnet in hue, it opens with warm aromas of red fruit jam, wild strawberry, rosehip and a touch of undergrowth, with fennel emerging in the background. Expressive and mildly ripe, this delivers a delicate, infusion-like texture, fine-grained tannins and juicy freshness. Long-lasting and distinctive, this stands apart with a singular identity—neither ethereal nor overly liqueur-like. This Garnacha's individuality is its strength.
Weingut über: Senora de las Alturas Garnacha
With Señora de las Alturas we continue our series of wines focused on the terroir. We are located in Fitero, the only Navarran village belonging to the Iberian mountains, just in the geological separation between the Sierra de Cameros and the Ebro valley. Señora de las Alturas is a wine from Pontigos plot, one of our two plots with pre-phylloxera grenache vines. The phylloxera devastated our area in 1898, two years later the vineyards began to register, this plot dates from the first year of registration, from 1900 but we know that it may be 20 or 25 years older. Hand harvesting of the best bunches in 15 kg boxes. Alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts in two 500 litre french oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation and ageing for 15 months in two-year old 500 litre french oak barrels. Gentle clarification and filtration, without stabilization. Clear, bright, mid-intensity, garnet colour. Clean and intense. Fruits of the forest and red fruit aromas with hints of earthiness and spice. Dry and fresh, marked acidity. Broad and balanced, full and meaty with flavours of fruits of the forest and spice. Some attractive bitterness and green notes, characteristic of the grape variety. A wine with minerality and distinctive character. Persistent on the palate.
