Tameran Vijariego
The 2022 Vijariego Blanco (or Verijadiego Blanco) has a low 11.1% alcohol, a low pH and high acidity, reflecting an early harvest in a warm year and a warm zone. It fermented and matured in 500-liter oak barrels for 10 months. This is a late-ripening variety, the last to be picked, and the grapes still achieved moderate alcohol (it's in a more shaded place). The wine has some austerity—it's a sharp variety—with a strict and neutral palate with faint aromas of white flowers. All the wines are clean and precise, and this is no exception. It should develop nicely in bottle. 1,320 bottles were filled in July 2023. 93/100 *** Tamerán is the name of the winery in Gran Canaria from footballer David Silva, who recently retired from the sport. Jonatan García from Suertes del Marqués in Tenerife is in charge of the wines. 2020 was the first vintage, and they finished building the winery in 2021. Silva has six hectares of vines in production and a further 1.5 of new plantings in the village of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. In 2022, they bought some grapes from the zone and also from the north of the island, in the higher-altitude village of San Mateo. They harvest early (they are in the south of the island, a warmer zone), and they block malolactic. Production is 16,000 bottles.
