Heiner Lobenberg über:
Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut 2002
/100

Jeb Dunnuck über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Jeb Dunnuck: A bit more golden in color, the 2002 Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill Vinothèque shows all the depth and serious nature of the west. The red fruit shines, and the wine is long on chocolate-covered cherries, preserved citrus, saltiness, and full-bodied richness, with notes of toasted bread and pastry and a more serious, gripping structure. It’s long on the palate, with salted citrus and a mouthwatering finish that carries tremendous length. It has more sapidity and depth on the palate and should drink well from 2025-2055.

Wine Enthusiast über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Wine Enthusiast: With its gold color and mature, toasty flavors, this is possibly the greatest Winston Churchill ever. It has weight and richness, with a dense, full and rich texture. It's in perfect balance, bringing together maturity and crisper apple and green plum fruit flavors that are cut with lemon. A mineral edge gives a nervy character that will allow this magnificent wine to age further. 98/100

Suckling über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Suckling: Fabulous aromas of dried apple, cream, mango and ginger follow through to a full, dense palate, but it's very, very fine. The bead is so, so fine. The texture is like silk. Truly superb quality. I love the contrast between richness and freshness. It builds slow on the palate and finishes so long and rich. This was 10 years on the lees. Mostly pinot noir. So superlative to drink. This follows 2000, 1999, 1996 and 1995. 97/100

Parker über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Parker: The 2002 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill is the stunning 2008's closest challenger in the decade, bursting with aromas of confit citrus, stone fruits, mandarin, sweet dried fruits, smoke and iodine. Full-bodied, layered and vinous, it's deep and multidimensional, with broad shoulders, terrific concentration and a long, resonant finish. In style, this shares all of 2012's breadth and flesh but brings more structure and tension to the equation. Still youthful today, the 2002 will drink well for the next two decades from a cold cellar. 97/100

Galloni über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Galloni: The 2002 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill Vinothèque is such a classic wine for the vintage. Explosive and opulent to the core, the 2022 is seriously impressive. Baked apple tart, chamomile, acacia honey, hazelnut, coffee and orange confit stain the palate. Plush, generous contours wrap it all together in style. This is what 2002 is all about. Disgorged: January 2015.

Decanter über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Decanter: The lauded 2002 vintage often shows its weightier side at this level of maturity and this magnum obliges with decadent butter caramel, charry sourdough toast and dried raspberry aromas. There’s still a relatively youthful, fragrant precision here, though, with heaps of perfumed Pinot berry fruit still pushing through the sucrosity of the vintage and the post-disgorgement ageing. Rich, energetic and fine, this is open for business and far from showing signs of tiring. Tasted from magnum.

Jancis Robinson über: Champagne Sir Winston Churchill Brut
-- Jancis Robinson: After tasting six younger vintages in magnum, this 75-cl bottle leaps forward in maturity – both in colour and in fruit character. There's a slight bruising to the apple fruit but only in the most charming and succulent way – that sweet smell of decay, like leaf litter and undergrowth. Still going absolutely strong, but certainly entering the mature phase of development with more tertiary than primary flavours. 18,5/20
