Lobenberg: Torrione wurde erstmals 1988 gemacht, damals war der Wein ein reiner Sangiovese. Heute besteht der Blend hauptsächlich aus Sangiovese mit etwas Cabernet Sauvignon und Merlot. Tiefes Rubinrot. Mit der Nase im Glas beginnt man mit dem Torrione eine gedankliche Reise in die Toskana. Waldbeeren, rote und schwarze Kirschen und jede Menge erdiger Aromen und Gewürze. Gebrannter Ton, Vanille, Lorbeerwürze, Nelken, mediterrane Kräuter, luftgetrockneter Schinken und Pinienduft. Mmmh, ziemlich traumhaft. Im Mund vibriert die klare Kirschfrucht mit salziger Mineralität und grünem Tabak. Saftig und würzig mit puderzucker-feinem Tannin. Dieser kleine Wein hat sogar das Potenzial ein paar Jahre im Keller vergessen zu werden. Ein klasse Einstieg in die Weine dieses spannenden Aufsteiger Weinguts.

-- Parker: This wine is mostly Sangiovese with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Petrolo 2022 Torrione reveals a luminous ruby tinge and follows through with bold cherry, blackcurrant and crushed rose. This vintage brings forth more textural heft in terms of mouthfeel, and it feels a little richer on the finish. You get excellent quality at a still-affordable price.

-- The Drink Business: Much of the Sangiovese comes from the Bòggina vineyard, the Merlot from Galatrona and the Cabernet from Campo Lusso. Intensely spicy and with a lovely subtle blend of balsam wood, rosemary and lavender, with more and more of the latter filling the aromatics with gentle aeration. Plum, baked plum and damson, perhaps a little red cherry too, more so on the palate. Grippy tannins seem almost to wrestle the fruit to the spine, giving this a marked, visceral, sense of structure. Precise and focused on the finish. Excellent value at anything like last year’s release price.
