Der Dog Point Pinot Noir entsteht aus sechs verschiedenen Pinot Noir Klonen, bei denen die ältesten Rebstöcke über 35 Jahre alt sind. Kraftvoll, konzentriert, reife Pflaumen, Schwarzkirsche, Maulbeere, Lakritz und Anis. Hier sind wir zwischen Markus Molitors Schieferwürze und Fritz Beckers Kalksteineleganz mit Kirschenfrucht. Viel Holunder und beeindruckende Kirscharomen geben dem Wein eine großartige Tiefe und Struktur. Die ausgewogenen Tanninen geben ihm die Seele und Glanz. Man könnte ihn blind auch nach Bannockburn legen, Felton Road ist qualitativ durchaus in fast greifbarer Nähe für Dog Point. Für Marlborough allemal ganz großes Pinot-Kino. 94-95/100

An intense, inviting nose with lots of spicy liveliness and layers. Rich and quite bold in style but never heavy. Plenty of red and black fruits. Rounded, supple and mouthfilling, with lovely spice, dried herbs and sweet fruit. Fine, firm tannins drive the length; good acidity, too. An interesting, sophisticated wine, and while very attractive now, its concentration and balance suggest a satisfying result for cellaring. Organic.,

Winepilot über: Pinot Noir

All the royal treatment in the four pinnacles of Dog Point’s offerings. Hand harvested fruit, hand sorted with 25% whole bunches and pressed into French oak barrels of which 30% was new for a total of 18 months. Violet petals, Damson plum, black raspberry and fig topped with turned potting soil and gravel. The wine hits the base notes with coffee grinds, allspice and sandalwood. It’s equally alluring and coquettish with its underlying heady spices and wafts of wild red and black fruit. Oak supports the density of fruit and underpins its ability to transform in the glass. Tannins are tightly laced with propulsive acidity and carry. Drinking well now but in true Dog Point style, they have their eyes on the long game and this will cellar beautifully upwards of 6 years.

Lovely layers of lucid aromas are on show from first sniff: black cherry and red berry cordial, cocktail bitters-like herbs and spices and a dark chocolate nuance. There's a distinctive kitten's tongue texture to the tannins that adds structure to the plush fruit. While still quite primary and young, there's lovely concentration and harmony here that makes this a solid cellaring choice (until around 2030) or a food-friendly drop now with some aeration.
