Lobenberg: Das Bouquet ist extrem animierend. Eingelegte Paprika, dann getrockneter Thymian, Olive und Brombeere. Fast an Cornas erinnernd in seiner Wucht und Tiefe. Am Gaumen tiefschwarze Frucht, feines, ja, sandiges Tannin. Eine mittlere Säurestruktur. Das ist alles sehr zupackend und dunkel in der Aromatik aber eben ohne Holzeinfluss. Würzig, tief, ohne animalische Töne. Ein Steak-Wein par excellence. Die Qualität zu dem Preis ist überragend, da haben es ehrlicherweise manche Franzosen schwer. 93+/100

-- Galloni: The 2017 Cornerstone, matured in 30% new French oak for 18 months (the Merlot and Cabernet Franc aged in foudre) has an opulent bouquet of lavish dark cherry, cassis, blueberry and whole bunches of freshly picked violets. It would be overwhelming if not for its entrancing purity and pixelation. The palate is medium-bodied with a finely chiseled lattice of tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and wonderful mineralité toward the finish. This is an outstanding wine from Johanne Reyneke and his team. 96/100

-- Decanter: Reyneke sees his farm workers as the cornerstone of the business, so proceeds of this wine help them and families with housing, education and pensions. Serious and structured, it has graphite and minty cedar tones, the oak also lending spice and firm tannins, while the generous berry fruit has a leafy freshness and mineral tarmac edge. The blend changes each year, and in 2017 it is 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Cabernet Franc and 14% Merlot. The Merlot (fermented in steel) gives bright red fruit notes, with darker cassis from the Cabernets (fermented in concrete). The final blend matures 18 months in barrel, 30% new. 94/100
