Chateau Montlandrie 2023

First year of cabernet sauvignon in the blend. First year vines. 55% merlot, 25% cabernet sauvignon and 20% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

The Wine Palate über: Chateau Montlandrie
A plot of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2021 came on line this year, so there is more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend of the 2023 Montlandrie than usual. The blend is 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 55% Merlot, and it is deep garnet‑purple in color. It skyrockets out with intense scents of blackberry pie, juicy raspberries, and wild blueberries, giving way to a fragrant undercurrent of Chinese five‑spice, dried roses, and incense. The full‑bodied palate is wonderfully rich and opulent, superbly contrasted by fantastic tension and a velvety texture, finishing long and perfumed. Gorgeous!

Including a new parcel that brought more Cabernet into the blend, the 2023 Château Montlandrie is based on 55% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new French oak. This deep purple-hued beauty has a classy, perfumed, complex, and incredibly elegant personality, offering ripe black raspberries, sappy flowers, blood orange, and a beautiful limestone-like minerality. It's medium-bodied, pure, layered, and graceful, with fine tannins, remarkable purity, and a great finish. This is one of those hidden gems that readers will love. Drink bottles over the coming 15-20 years. Drink 2026-2045.

The bouquet of flowers stands out before revealing its rich cherries, mint, and chocolate that make up the aromatic profile. The medium-bodied palate balances its vibrant energy with a sweet, spicy, and bright red fruit character. There is elegance and length in the red berry finish that makes you want to take another sip afterward pit fruit finish. Give it a year or two in the cellar, and enjoy it for 15 or more years. The wine blends 55% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2027-2040.,

Galloni über: Chateau Montlandrie
The 2023 Montlandrie is another seriously beautiful wine from sisters Constance and Noëmie Durantou. This is the first with a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, which comes through in the wine's dark persona and strong savory inflections. The wine's depth, textual presence and dynamic personality are all exceptional by any measure.

55 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Franc, 25 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5 Vol.-%. Grandioser Castillon! 18+ 18/20 2030 – 2055

A plot of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 2021 came on line this year, so there is more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend of the 2023 Montlandrie than usual. The blend is 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 55% Merlot and it is deep garnet-purple in color. It charges out of the glass with powerful notes of baked plums, black cherry preserves, and black raspberries, followed by hints of mint tea, clove oil, Indian spices, and fragrant soil. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with expressive black fruit layers, framed by velvety tannins and bags of freshness, finishing long and opulent.

Neal Martin über: Chateau Montlandrie
The 2023 Montlandrie sees a change in composition, as a plot of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon that Noëmie Durantou planted in 2021 enters the blend for the first time. She found the first-pressed wine for the Cabernet Sauvignon impressive, so she also added that to the blend. The result is 55% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked between September 18 and 30 and matured in 50% new oak. This new makeup certainly gives it a different aromatic profile than previous vintages: black cherries, cedar and pencil shavings, very focused, more Left-Bank-meets-Right-Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It’s beautifully structured and judiciously spiced with gentle grip on the finish. Together with Les Cruzelles, these wines represent outstanding value for money. This will certainly age well in bottle.
