Heiner Lobenberg über:
Brunello di Montalcino 2016

98–100
/100

Lobenberg: Sehr dunkles Rubinrot, burgundisch. 98-100/100

Falstaff über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Falstaff: Aufhellendes, funkelndes Granatrot. 99/100

International Wine Report über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- International Wine Report: Radiant and essential in the glass it presents itself with a brilliant and unloaded body with shades of cherry and intoxicating perfumes reminiscent of hibiscus, mandarin flowers, calendula, chamomile and wild thyme. In the background citronella merges into shades of lemon and lime skin giving richness and complexity to the matrix. Medium bodied, perfectly matured tannins and a finish of incredible drinkability. Love at first sight. Drink now or age. 98/100

Jeb Dunnuck über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Jeb Dunnuck: The 2016 Brunello Di Montalcino has a bright ruby hue and offers lifted and focused aromas of red cherries, orange zest, fresh roses, and stony earth. Medium-bodied and linear, it offers a vibrant energy with fresh acidity, refined, compact tannins, and a long finish. An outstanding vintage from Poggio di Sotto, this is one for the long haul. Drink 2026-2056. 98/100

Parker über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Parker: From one of my favorite vintages ever comes the Poggio di Sotto 2016 Brunello di Montalcino. What I love about this wine is that citrusy note of orange zest that appears so beautifully on the bouquet, giving it lift and energy. You also get dark fruit, cherry and a finely chiseled mineral note that comes from schistic galestro soils. With this vintage, the winemaking team started harvesting in phases as a way of mitigating any possible adverse weather conditions. In other words, some of the fruit is harvested early to avoid bad weather and some might be harvested later if weather conditions proceed nicely. This is a technique that the winery continues to practice today.

Wine Spectator über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Wine Spectator: There’s a leafy underbrush element to this red, punctuating the cherry, strawberry and earth flavors. Compact for now, yet balanced, with a taut, reserved finish. Offers tension and suppleness, with plenty in reserve. Best from 2024 through 2047. 97/100

Decanter über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Decanter: There is always something so recognisable and pure in Poggio di Sotto. The estate has made a great effort to preserve the genetic material of the vines, and the Sangiovese is a massal selection of its own biotypes. Aromas drip with ripe red cherry, Mediterranean herbs and white pepper. The fruit is sumptuous and very juicy – all raspberry and nectarine flesh. Beautifully weightless yet mouthfilling, it's racy and fluid with powdery tannins that cleanse the palate, and a lingering finish of orange blossom and tea. 96/100

Galloni über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Galloni: You can lose yourself in the bouquet of the 2016 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino. At one moment, the 2016 shows crushed cherries with autumnal spice; the next, it’s exotic florals and candied orange peels, and at another time flowery undergrowth, white smoke and wild berries. It’s unbelievably soft and pure, lifting the wine through saline-minerals, as sweet notes of cherry and raspberry begin to slowly saturate, yet what they leave behind is youthfully grippy tannins. With how structured the 2016 is today, it’s still enjoyable due to nervous acids and notes of sour citrus, which keep the expression fresh. The 2016 Poggio di Sotto Brunello is really a terrific effort and a classic in the making.
