Lobenberg: Carlo Ferrini gehört zur Topliga der italienischen Önologen und Alberelli di Giodo ist sein neuestes Projekt. Eigentlich ist Carlo in der Toskana zu Hause, aber als er diese 80 bis 100 Jahre alten, wurzelechten Busch-Reben auf dem Ätna entdeckte, konnte er gar nicht anders als sich ihnen anzunehmen. Der erste Jahrgang des Nerello Mascalese war 2016. Nach der Gärung im Stahltank wird der Wein zwölf Monate lang im 5.000 Liter fassenden Eichenfass ausgebaut. Leuchtendes Rubinrot. Die Nase ist durch und durch rotfruchtig. Kirsche, Himbeere und Erdbeere. Zart und schwebend mit etwas weißem Pfirsich, blondem Tabak und ätherischer Bitter-Orange. Typisch für Carlo Ferrini ist der Wein ein absolutes Finessewunder! Die rauchige, würzige, eisenhaltige Mineralität harmoniert mit puderzucker-feinen Tanninen. Ein absolut anmutiger Wein, der aus dem Stand in die Topliga der Ätna-Weingüter geschnellt ist. Großes Kino! 96+/100

-- Parker: Closed with a red wax capsule, the Alberelli di Giodo 2021 Nerello Mascalese does a great job of transmitting energy, finesse and elegance. This is an exceptional expression of Etna's protagonist grape. It effortlessly shows small berry aromas of cassis and wild berry along with some dried herb, mountain flower, orange peel and crushed stone. Carlo Ferrini has hit this nail squarely on the head.

-- Suckling: Aromas of plum, iron and pumice with some flowers. It’s medium-bodied with powdered, fine tannins. It’s layered and elegant yet so structured. Very long and focused. Wild finish with a lava-like undertone to it all. Just above the contrada of Rapante. Drinkable but better in two or three years.

-- Jeb Dunnuck: Coming from Rampante, Calderara, Zottorinotto, and Pietrarizzo Contrade, the 2021 Terre Siciliane Nerello Mascalese is showing beautifully today, with its complexity taking the edge over the rest in this short vertical tasting. The wine presents ripe red cherries, incense, cinnamon, dusty earth, and Mediterranean herbs. Medium-bodied, it fills the palate and has a long, salty finish with a savory character and lots of blood orange notes throughout the midpalate and finish. Drink 2025-2045.

-- Weinwisser: Die Trauben für den Roten wachsen außerhalb der DOC auf über 950 m.ü.M. und sind mit 80bis 100 Jahre alten Nerello-Mascalese-Buschreben bestockt. Der Ausbau erfolgt in 700-Liter-Holzfässern, ab dem Jahrgang 2023 erfolgt die Vinifikation in der Amphore, das Blending findet im Zement statt. Wunderschöne, burgundisch anmutende Nase mit roten Beeren, feinsten Kirschen sowie subtiler Floralität und rauchiger Würze. Im Mund zeigt er eine elegante Struktur mit mineralischem und erdigem Kern, getragen von einer feinen Säure und feinmaschigem, saftig-reifem Tannin.

Decanter über: Alberelli di Giodo Nerello Mascalese

-- Decanter: Potpourri dried flowers, cracked peppercorns, garrigue herbs and caramelised, spiced nuts on the nose. Warm and filling, the tannins are pronounced with a crushed stone, iron-laced tang that coats the entire mouth. This has strength but it's not heavy, with a juicy core that lifts the palate and acidity to keep things fresh and forward. This builds in layers adding in more spice, sun-kissed black and red fruit with mineral touches throughout, building to a long and sustained finish. Feels like the alcohol stands out a touch but this would work well with food. From a two-hectare vineyard planted on volcanic soils at 950 metres above sea level. 5.9g total acidity. 7,000 bottles produced. WInemaker Carlo Ferrini. 93/100
