Heiner Lobenberg über:
Brunello di Montalcino 2019

96–97
/100

Suckling über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Suckling: Lots of bark, mushroom and forest-flower aromas with crushed cherries. Complex. Medium body with lovely acid tension and a racy and pretty finish. Very fine tannins. Lots of energy here. Drink after 2025. 95/100

Colin Hay über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Colin Hay: ne of the coolest vineyards in the appellation and it gives so much to work with here. Earthy. Spicy. Fresh herbal elements and that brilliantly crystalline mid-palate – like a dark lake at night, or the very early morning as the mist clears. Quietly shimmering. Dynamic, though with upwelling under-currents. Lavender. Violet. Wild roses. Wild thyme and rosemary. Brilliant. A wine of considerable purity. So juicy. A star of the appellation. Taut and tense and supremely vivid. You want to drink this now. 95/100

Parker über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Parker: The Poggio Antico 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a pretty bouquet with a unique set of aromas that recall dried cherries with hints of rose potpourri or fragrant acacia wood. Those delicate floral notes give lift and energy to the bouquet. The only distraction is the 15% alcohol content. Otherwise, this wine is a good example of a classic vintage. Production is 37,800 bottles. 94/!00

Wine Spectator über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Wine Spectator: A blast of pure cherry fruit erupts from the glass, with iron, tobacco and spice notes adding complexity. Lively and balanced, showing a chalky feel to its tannins on the lingering finish. Best from 2026 through 2042. 94/100

Decanter über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Decanter: Poggio Antico’s high-altitude vineyards are almost dead centre in the appellation. They are characterised by constant breezes – both from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and Monte Amiata to the southeast – as well as significant diurnal temperature differences. Very fragrant and animated, this brings together scents of Mediterranean forest, pine and garden-fresh mint with cooler juniper and pepper notes. Very smooth and polished, the palate sports almost a glossy sheen. It is deliciously plump and weighted with layers of ripe, macerated cherry countered by chinotto bitters. There is more tension coming from the tangy acid than the soft tannins. Finishes with cinnamon spice.93/100

Jeb Dunnuck über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Jeb Dunnuck: The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino spent 10-12 months in barrels for maturation. Tasted for a second time at the winery, it displays a jeweled ruby color and is very nicely layered with notes of anise, fresh black cherries, dried lavender, and salted orange. It’s energetic and structured on the palate, with all its components coming to life. It’s ripe yet has lovely angular accents with crispy fresh fruit, and it has a clean and balanced finish. This lovely Brunello is going to show at its best over the coming 10-15 years. 93/100

Jancis Robinson über: Brunello di Montalcino

-- Jancis Robinson: Dark ruby with orange tinges. Deep, dramatic balsamic nose with a hint of oak. The palate is sheer precision without being short of concentration. Polished, tangy fruit with a layer of sandy tannins streamlining the whole. Generous but still a little embryonic. 17,5/20
