Parker über: VZ Douro Red

The 2023 VZ Tinto is an approachable and tender blend of grapes from different vineyards. It was produced in an approachable way while keeping the Douro character and is nicely crafted, with balance and freshness and not lacking power. It's not shy at 15.3% alcohol, but you don't feel it; the wine comes through as harmonious and fine, with abundant, slightly dusty tannins with a fine, powdery granularity. 22,410 bottles and 302 magnums produced. It was bottled in December 2025.

Vollgepackt mit eingekochten dunklen Früchten, Lakritze und pfeffrigen Untertönen, Nelke, dazu ein Hauch Nougat, Gewürznelke und kalter Espresso. Am Gaumen kraftvoll, konzentriert und wuchtig, viel Dunkelschokolade, zugleich aber von erstaunlicher Eleganz getragen. Hallt eindrucksvoll lange und intensiv nach.

From vineyards overlooking the historic Sandeman property, this foot trodden red is deeply concentrated and unmistakably Douro in character. Dark berries, ripe red cherry and liqueur-like aromas combine with a velvety texture and generous warmth. The wine is bold and expressive, yet balanced by enough freshness and savoury complexity. Ageing takes place in mostly used barrels which gently frames the wine and adds subtle graphite notes while hints of dried herbs and capers bring lift to the finish. Rich, fleshy and welcoming, it captures the region's warm spirit.

Van Zellers

Mit einer Geschichte, die bis ins Jahr 1620 zurückreicht, ist Van Zellers eines der ältesten Portweinhäuser überhaupt. Es ist heute noch immer ein Familienbetrieb, der aktuell bereits in 14. und 15. Generation von Douro-Ikone Cristiano und seiner Tochter Francisca Van Zeller geführt wird.
