Der Wein aus der Herkules-Sage. Vulkanböden, Südexposition. Goldgelb. Und die Nase bestätigt mit ihrer exotischen Intensität alle Erwartungen. Druckvoll, dicht, nicht benennbar komplex. Im Mund weiß man nicht wohin mit dieser Vielzahl der komplexen Eindrücken, alle Früchte der Welt in süßer Form fallen einem ein, dann Salz, Steine, Bitterstoffe, und immer wieder diese Überwältigung. Man muss es mal erlebt haben.

The 2018 Gewurztraminer Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain combines the purity and unique spiciness, flintiness and ethereal character of the vineyard with the classic lychee and rose petal aromas on a deep, intense and concentrated bouquet. Lush and round on the palate, this is an intense, very long and sustainable Gewurz with fine tannins and a dense, complex and saline as well as grippy finish. The wine is tight but also charming in its generous fruit and lush elegance. There is richness combined with finesse and vitality, and it's an outstanding representative of this great, unique and eternal grape variety. Although filled with 77.8 grams per liter of residual sugar, this tastes like a rather medium-sweet wine. Fabulous.

This is an almost overwhelming wine, but not in the usual way that gewurz does that through lychee and spicy intensity. This is so smoky with complex, exotic-fruit aromas and wild-herb notes. The caramel and buttery richness of the palate is beautifully balanced by the salty and smoky character that dominates the long finish. Yes, there’s some sweetness in there, but not too much to serve this with hard cheeses. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
