Lobenberg: Schwarz mit rubinrotem Schimmer, ein Hauch violett. Wuchtige und druckvolle Nase, kraftvoll, gute Harmonie, nicht der bei Cheval erwartete Charme. Im Mund ungeheuer konzentriert, dabei sehr fein und balanciert, tolle Harmonie ausstrahlend. Recht gutes Volumen mit feiner Süße, Schoko mit schwarzer und ein wenig roter Frucht. Massenhafte weiche und polierte, sehr feine Tannine, hohe aber kaum spürbare Konzentration. Der Wein zeigt viel Rasse und ist reich an Finesse und einzigartiger Feinheit wie bei Cheval erwartet, der Unikats-Charakter geht von Jahr zu Jahr etwas mehr Richtung Cabernet Franc. Ein großer Wein und einer der Stars des Jahrgangs. 100/100

-- The Wine Palate: Opulent, Bold, Black Fruit, Roses, Minty, Pencil Lead, Medium to Full bodied, Refreshing Acidity, Subtle Oak, Grainy Texture, High Tannin, Youthful. A blend of 51% Merlot and 49% Cabernet Franc, the 2005 Cheval Blanc has a deep garnet color. The nose is still so incredibly youthful, soaring out of the glass with notes of juicy black plums, Morello cherries, mulberries, and fragrant soil, plus nuances of rose oil, spearmint, and pencil shavings. The medium to full-bodied palate is taut and energetic, delivering a firm backbone of exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and great tension, finishing long and shimmery.

-- Parker: The 2005 from Cheval Blanc is a quintessentially elegant, beautiful, deep bluish/ruby-colored wine from St.-Emilion, with raspberry, blueberry, and floral notes, impressive density, great precision, freshness and purity. Full-bodied, but extremely light on its feet, I don’t mean to gush, but it is super-intense, rich and just so meticulously crafted! This is another fabulous wine and a perfect expression for this vintage. It is difficult to forget the gorgeous blueberry and raspberry fruit, full body, sweet tannin, a multi-layered texture, and purity and palate presence of this stunning wine. Drink it over the next 20 years. P.S. In 2005, this was 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot. 100/100

-- Galloni: The 2005 Cheval Blanc is another wine that is utterly mesmerizing from the moment it is opened. Exquisite in its aromatics, the 2005 Cheval is sublime on the palate, where the interplay of Merlot and Cabernet Franc proves to be captivating. In a night of truly spellbinding wines, the Cheval makes a deep impression because of its overall finesse and nuance. Along with the Margaux and Haut-Brion, the Cheval speaks to total refinement and polish. The Cheval is of course not one of the bigger, more imposing wines of the night, but it is among the most complete, which makes it the perfect wine to close out an incredible night. When we first opened the 2005, I thought it might very well be the wine of the night. A few hours later, it was every bit as impressive. 100/100

-- Jeb Dunnuck: A magical showing, the 2005 Chateau Cheval Blanc is a powerful, deep, incredibly massive wine by this estate’s standards, yet it nevertheless never loses a sense of elegance, purity, and finesse. Bombastic notes of cassis, flowery incense, tobacco leaf, and dried soil all flow to a full-bodied red that has sweet, integrated tannins, a beautiful mid-palate, flawless balance, and a huge finish. It’s drinking shockingly well today, and my money is on it continuing to show this way for another three decades. 100/100

-- Falstaff: Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. In der Nase intensive, exotische Gewürzanklänge, feinstes rotbeeriges Konfit, zarte Reifenuancen in der Frucht, Noten von reifen Pflaumen, ein Hauch von blättriger, mineralischer Cabernet-Franc-Würze. Am Gaumen feste, süße Tannine, hochelegant, perfekt strukturiert, dunkler Fruchtschmelz, delikater Wein, ausgestattet mit wirklich überzeugender Länge, tolles Zukunftspotenzial. 100/100
