Lobenberg: DER Superstar von Vallado aus einer Einzellage in 350 Metern Höhe als gemischtem Satz uralter Reben von über 90 Jahren. Diverse autochtone Reben. Spontan im Beton vergoren, zu 100% im neuen französischen Barrique ganze 18 Monate ausgebaut. Das Holz wird von der wilden Kühle und hohen Frische super kompensiert. Immense Beerigkeit, sattester, süße rote und schewarze Frucht mit Nougat und Nutella unterlegt. Hervorragend balanciert mit feinster Krautwürze, vielleicht sind ein Teil der Rappen bei der Vergärung verblieben? Zuzutrauen ist es dem genialen Winemaker Francisco Ferreira auf jeden Fall. Reife Zwetschgen im Mund, dazu fette Herzkirsche und wilde Preisselbeere, etwas Holunder, Orangenzesten, Espresso und Lakritz dazu, Eine aromatische, tendenziell mehr rotbeerige Explosion. Jung fehlt ihm in all der fruchtigen Wildheit noch etwas die Harmonie, aber dass es ein großer Wein ist und wird, steht außer Frage. 97-100/100

Suckling über: Vinha da Granja

-- Suckling: Notes of blackberries and mulberries with cured meat, dark spices and graphite. Compact and broad tannin structure here, with medium to full body. It’s structured and generous but supple in the middle, with deep dark fruit and a lengthy finish. Blend of 32 indigenous varieties from old vines, that are co-planted. Unique. Real wine. Drink or hold. 96/100

Parker über: Vinha da Granja

-- Parker: The 2019 Vinha da Granja is a single-parcel field blend (34 grapes) from 1929 vines. As with the Coroa, another recent brand, these are also higher-altitude vines (about 300 to 350 meters) but later picked. It was aged for 18 months in new French barriques and comes in at 14.48% alcohol. Perhaps my favorite of Vallado's upper-level reds this issue, this combines the elegance and finesse of the others with a little more richness and more sensual texture. It always maintains the winery's style this issue, though, demonstrating precision, impressive structure and focus all the time. While it gradually became my favorite as they all aired out, I can't ignore the price point. Maybe you'd be as happy with the Reserva, or at times, happier. I liked this slightly more while projecting the future today, but there are pros and cons, and it's hard to justify another $200 for the small difference in my appreciation. Who knows—in time, maybe the Reserva will win out. 95/100

-- Decanter: Vivid, with juicy, well-defined blackberry, blueberry and crunchier red cherry and berry fruit. Notes of earth, graphite, violets, liquorice and tobacco pouch bring a spicy, savoury dimension. Fine but present tannins and mineral acidity make for a fluid, strikingly fresh palate. Located in the cooler Baixo Corgo, the south-facing field blend parcel was planted in 1929 to 32 varieties. 95/100

-- Falstaff: Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, breitere Randaufhellung. Zart kräuterwürzig unterlegte schwarze Waldbeeren, ein Hauch von Nougat, reife Zwetschken, feiner Edelholztouch, kandierte Orangenzesten unterlegt. saftig, Herzkirschen und Preiselbeeren, reife Tannine, etwas Kakao im Abgang, tolle Länge, feinwürziger Nachhall, frisch und bereits zugänglich. 95/100
