Lobenberg: Sehr rassige Nase, schwarze und rote Frucht. Frische Zwetschge mit schwarzer und roter Kirsche, auch Schattenmorelle, ein wenig Mango. Tolle Eleganz zeigend. Sehr schöne Milchschokolade. Die Nase macht ungeheure Freude, burgundisch, fast dramatisch schön. Im Antrunk ähnlich rassig wie die Nase. Tolle Säure, sehr mineralisch. feines Salz, eher schlank und voller Finesse, tänzelnd. Die Nase ließ mehr Volumen erwarten, aber dieser Wein geht voll zur Finesse, Rasse und Feinheit. Grandioser Erfolg aus großartigem Jahrgang.

-- Decanter: Dense, expressive aromatics. Rich, vibrant bramble fruit with lots of floral accents. Supple and alive. A great combination of acidity and juiciness with weight and flesh. Fun, joyful even, with vibrancy but also hefty tannins that give a large and confident structure. Cool, fresh and charming. Makes you smile. Great stuff.

-- Galloni: (a blend of 72% cabernet sauvignon and 28% merlot) Medium-dark ruby. Fruity, bright aromas of red cherry, red berries and flowers, complicated by cedar and graphite. Then light and lively in the mouth, with strawberry,raspberry and smoky dark cherry flavors complicated by hints of white pepper and gunflint. The finish features a lingering floral note and chewy tannins that will need some time to resolve but seem polished enough to guarantee a bright future. This is an excellent, classically styled Haut-Bages Liberal, just a step below the first growths: I loved its balance, refined texture and sneaky concentration, though it might fail to impress those looking for a large quantity of creamy, soft fruit.

Während des 18. Jahrhunderts pflanzte die Weinhandels-Familie „Libéral“ Weinreben auf den Hügeln um den Ort „Bages“. So erklärt sich der Name. 1982 wurde das Château Haut Bages Libéral an die Besitzer von Château Chasse-Spleen in Moulis verkauft.
