Heiner Lobenberg über:
Sonoma Coast Syrah 2013

93–94
/100

Parker über: Sonoma Coast Syrah

The 2013 Syrah Sonoma Coast comes from the Cole Creek Vineyard in Chalk Hill, planted in 2006, and Rodgers Creek Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, planted in 2002. 2013 was an idyllic vintage with clear, sunny days, cool evenings and extended hang time through October. The Syrah was co-fermented with 8% Viognier, and 25% whole clusters were used. Matured for 18 months in 30% new French oak barrels, it opens with game meat and pipe tobacco scents that give way to a mélange of wild berry fruit and floral perfume. The full-bodied palate retains a plush core of youthful fruit and is framed by refined, supple tannins. Succulent acidity adds balance, and it has a long finish. Still quite youthful, it will continue to evolve savory complexity in the cellar over the next 10–15 years. 660 cases were made.

Galloni über: Sonoma Coast Syrah

-- Galloni: A much more varietally expressive set of aromas and flavors emerges from the 2013 Syrah. Black pepper, sage, lavender, mint and violets lift from the glass as this gorgeous Syrah opens up in the glass. There is plenty of the typical Ramey richness through the mid-palate and finish in a Syrah that has so much to recommend. I can't wait to taste the 2013 once it has been bottled. The addition of 8% Viognier adds lift, precision and perfume. The Syrah is mostly press wine from Cole Creek and Rodgers Creek.
