Côtes du Jura Chardonnay Les Survivants
Like what happened in 2017, 2021 was a year of frost when they could not produce the single-vineyard wines from their plots, so all the Chardonnay was put together into a 'frost' white, the 2021 Les Survivants. The frost wiped out a high percentage of the grapes, especially the Chardonnay, which sprouts early, and they only got 800 liters of wine per hectare (eight hectoliters); it was a shitty year. The very few grapes from the Chalasses Vieilles Vignes and other old vineyards were put together into this single cuvée. The wine finished with 13% alcohol, higher than expected. I had already tasted this unbottled in the summer of 2024, and the wine has put on weight since then. What magic goes on in these cellars, I don't know... It started a little closed right after pulling the cork and revealed a more reductive, yeasty personality, but it has a great, vibrant palate with freshness and acidity. It's a clean, delineated and incisive Chardonnay. It was bottled in August 2025 after four years in 600-liter demi-muids, without added sulfur, fining or finning.
