Lobenberg: Der Vigneto Casuccia ist auf dem gegenüberliegenden Hang zum Weingut gelegen. Weniger als 6.000 Flaschen werden von diesem monumentalen Wein pro Jahr gefüllt. Dichte, saftige Schwarzkirsche, Schlehen, Maulbeeren und Waldbeeren mit verspielten getrockneten Rosenblüten, Hibiskusblüten und Potpourri, ein Hauch Marzipan. So wunderbar schwebend. Grüner und blonder Tabak mit einem Hauch Graphit. Charmant, präzise und mit einer beeindruckenden, intensiven Mineralität die von hinten schiebt. Im Mund sind die Tannine feinkörnig und rund poliert, mit ihrer beinahe sandigen Textur breiten sie sich elegant auf der Zunge aus. Frische Brombeere, schwarze Johannisbeere, dunkle Schokolade. Voll fantastischer Spannung und Frische. La Casuccia ist die geradlinigste und mineralischste Einzellage des Castello di Ama. 98-100/100

Yet it also shows impeccable balance thanks to the deft hands of the estate winemaking team. I find this edition of la Casuccia, with fruit from a steep vineyard that faces the Castello, to be especially full and rich. Fruit weight and concentration is indeed a characteristic of this classic growing season, and this wine wears it well. You are treated to plenty of blackberry, spice, tobacco and grilled herb. 97/100

-- Wine&Spirits: Castello di Ama’s vineyards all lie in western Gaiole, where white, limestone-rich alberese soils predominate. La Casuccia includes a bit more clay than Marco Pallanti’s other vineyard sites, and that seems to build broader, richer tannins and intense depth in the dark fruit flavors while maintaining freshness in this warm and dry vintage. The fleshy red fruit from the 20 percent of merlot in the blend marries seamlessly with sangiovese’s leaner frame, giving a wine with juicy dark cherry and raspberry flavors tinged with notes of blood orange and a hint of mint. The wine gains energy for several days, the lively fruit tones and cool salinity lasting through a long and balanced finish. 97/100

Am Gaumen eng verwoben mit prachtvollem Fächer, spannt sich elegant über die Zunge, tolle Saftigkeit im hinteren Bereich, im Finale zudem edle Würze, druckvoll, wird prächtig reifen. 97/100
