Rioja Tinto Contino Seleccion Jesus Madrazo
-- John Gilman: -- Gilman: The 2010 Rioja “Selección” from Contino is comprised of a blend of eighty percent Tempranillo and twenty percent Graciano. The wine offers up an outstanding bouquet of black cherries, plums, Rioja spice tones, a touch of tariness, a complex base of soil, a nice dollop of fresh nutmeg and a stylish base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and very velvety already on the attack, with outstanding intensity at the core, excellent focus and balance and a very long, moderately tannic and still quite primary finish. This will be an outstanding bottle of Rioja in the fullness of time, but give it some time in the cellar to start to develop its secondary layers of complexity. 94+/100
