Heiner Lobenberg über:
Opus One 2014

97–100
/100

-- Parker: Blended of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, the Opus One 2014 Proprietary Red Wine sports an inky purple color and nose of crushed black and red currants, black cherries and mulberries with touches of underbrush, sautéed herbs and pencil shavings plus a waft of spice box. Medium-bodied, finely crafted and with an energetic line lifting the red and black fruits, it has a bold frame of grainy tannins and a very long, earth and spice-layered finish.

Suckling über: Opus One

-- Suckling: Mesmerizing aromas of flowers, bark, currants and blackberries. So perfumed. You just want to smell it. Exquisite tension and finesse with an almost Burgundian texture, yet it’s Napa in its soul with ripe fruit, stones, spices and Chinese tea leaf flavors. Savory and delicious. Drinkable but better in 2020. Available on October 2017. 97/100

International Wine Report über: Opus One

-- International Wine Report: The 2014 Opus One is another monumental wine from this historic Napa Valley estate. This stunning red is a fantastic blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot and 2% Malbec, which spent 18 months in new French oak prior to bottling. The result is a wine with remarkable purity, releasing seductive aromas of black fuits, crème de cassis, mocha, tar and spring florals underlined with a well-integrated herbal quality, all coming together to form the absolutely intoxicating bouquet. Beautifully concentrated with remarkable depth, this showcases an impressive range of complex flavors of dark fruits, crème de cassis, roasted coffee and dark chocolate shavings, which all build on the palate. The balance, structure and textural richness take this wine to another level, making it one of the most impressive wines from the vintage. Overall, this is another utterly compelling wine from winemaker Michael Silacci and his team at Opus One, which should continue to impress for decades. 98/100

Wine Cellar Insider über: Opus One

-- Wine Cellar Insider: love this style of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine combines concentration, purity of fruit, lush, silky tannins, freshness and length. You can drink it young, if you prefer, youthful, exuberant, fruit, or age it and enjoy the complexities of age. The wine was made from blending 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, which is something you could easily find in the Left Bank of Bordeaux.

Decanter über: Opus One

-- Decanter: Sometimes a little overlooked, this is a vintage that falls closer to 2012 than 2013 in profile, at least on this showing - it has velvety tannins that pack a punch, and the concentration is clear, with well-structured confident tannins and a deep swirl of black pepper. 2% Malbec, 7% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 20 days skin contact. Earliest bud break in history, mild and dry seasons, harvest from September 5 to October 7.
