Boom! Mit einem Paukenschlag aus einem der bisher besten Pinot Noir-Jahrgänge Deutschlands geht das Abtsberg GG von Grünhaus als erstes offizielles Spätburgunder GG der Mosel an den Start. Ein besseres Jahr hätte sich Grünhaus nicht wünschen können. Der heißen Sommer hat für eine satte, wollüstige Traubenreife gesorgt, selbst im kühlen Ruwertal. Spätburgunder ist ja auf Grünhaus nicht neu, schon lange stehen die Stöcke im Abtsberg, der Wein wurde aber bisher als Pinot Noir vermarktet und eben nicht als GG, jetzt folgt bloß der finale Schritt auf die Bühne der Großen Gewächse. Dichte, süße Brombeer-Nase mit gut eingebundenem Holz, auch viel Lavendel und Süßholz, ein bisschen Schwarztee und pfeffrige Würze darunter. Der Mund hat eine schicke Cremigkeit aus dem Holz, die Waldbeeren schmilzen auf der Zunge, wieder Brombeere, Cassis, viel Holunderbeere, duftige blaue Blüten. Feiner, samtiger, langer Nachhall mit süßen Veilchen und sich nach und nach aufbauender Tanninstärke, die aber in 2022 schön geschliffen und rund ist. Cremig-beeriger Nachhall mit viel Schieferwürze und mineralischer Herbheit. Ein schicker Ruwer-Spätburgunder mit dem Turbo von 2022.

Der paradoxe Extrem-Jahrgang 2022 präsentiert sich in Deutschland überraschend elegant, zugänglich und fein. Abseits jeder Hitze-Üppigkeit bestechen die Top-Weine mit reifem Säurespiel, klarer Terroir-Zeichnung und tänzerischer Brillanz – ein extrem selektiver, aber in der Spitze historisch großer Erfolg.

The 2022 Maximin Grünhaus Abtsberg GG Pinot Noir represents Maximin von Schubert's selection of the finest barrels. The wine opens more austere, dense and spicy on the nose than the Grünhäuser Pinot 1G but also displays a refined elegance. It is delicately nutty and even slightly buttery, blending with fine, ripe, dark cherry notes and gamey, earthy notes. Full-bodied, juicy and elegant on the palate, this is a dense yet refined, fresh, crystalline and stimulatingly salty Pinot from pure blue Devonian slate. Promising and sustainably complex, it is still very young. It comes from eight- to 17-year-old vines.13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026.

Concentrated and racy with a compact core of fine tannins, this proves that the Mosel can producer great pinot noirs that remain true to the region’s identity as the homeland of freshness and finesse. This winery once belonged to the abbey of St-Maximin in Trier, with a winemaking history dating back more than 1,000 years. The von Schubert family has owned the estate since 1882. Sixth-generation Maximin von Schubert expanded the Riesling tradition by introducing Pinot Noir, planting the vines in 2007 on the Abtsberg – one of three historic monopole sites characterised by blue slate soil. With the 2022 vintage, this became the first red wine from the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer to carry the VDP Grosses Gewächs (equivalent to Burgundy’s grand cru) classification. Caro Maurer MW: Ripe, highly concentrated fruit, but plenty of spice from ageing in new oak barrels; more graphite than toast. A very elegant, smooth, silky flow. Mark Dearing: Pulpy and sappy palate, long and spicy, slatey with an undertow of salts and stones, finishing on red plums. Neat and juicy with impressive length. Schon animierend und elegant im Duft, kühle Pinotfrucht, rote Kirsche, Himbeere, Walderdbeere, kühler Rauch, ein Hauch Vanille, auch frische Pfefferminze. Am Gaumen schwungvoll und in der Haltungsnote immer elegant, die Extraktdichte erschließt sich mühelos, klarer Fruchtausdruck, nobler, feinporiger Gerbstoff, die präzise Säure trägt genussvoll ins lange Finale: stilistisch ausgefeilt, da ist alles auf Finesse ausgerichtet.

The 2022 Spätburgunder Grünhäuser Abstberg Grosses Gewächs is a historic wine, marking the first Pinot Noir GG from the Mosel, where the variety was approved for GG in 2022. Grown on slate from a quintessential and ancient Riesling site, the nose is floral with violet and iris, followed by slate and juicy musberry. The palate is bright and precise, with red-fruited charm on a sleek, svelte palate that has beautiful fill and a fine-boned tannin structure. Freshness, purity and poise distinguish this beautiful inaugural GG.
